Lander on Wednesday announced he would mount a primary challenge<\/a>\u00a0to incumbent Rep. Dan Goldman\u00a0in New York’s 10th Congressional District, saying he had secured endorsements from Mamdani, as well as Public Advocate Jumaane Williams, Sens. And I’ve appreciated the relationship that we’ve had over the time that we’ve been elected officials,” he said. “And also the one that we built as we were running in this campaign for much of the last year.”<\/p>\n As mayoral primary candidates, Mamdani and Lander cross-endorsed each other<\/a> in an effort to block former Gov. Andrew Cuomo\u2019s bid to run the city.<\/p>\n Following the June 24 primary \u2014 in which Lander placed third \u2014 the city comptroller began campaigning for Mamdani.<\/p>\n \u201cI think Zohran\u2019s gonna win big. There\u2019s just so much energy,\u201d he said in an October interview with NY1<\/a>. \u201cSo many people out knocking doors. No one\u2019s out knocking doors for Andrew Cuomo.\u201d<\/p>\n Lander, a onetime City Council member, is the only primary challenger thus far to Goldman in the race for NY-10, which comprises lower Manhattan and parts of Brooklyn, including Lander\u2019s longtime neighborhood, Park Slope.<\/p>\n Progressive City Councilmember Alexa Avil\u00e9s and former state Assemblywoman Yuh-Line Niou \u2014 both of whom were mulling their own challenges to Goldman \u2014 released separate statements Wednesday saying they would not enter the race.<\/p>\n Lander referenced his relationship with Mamdani in his campaign launch video.<\/p>\n \u201cOur mayor [could] have an ally in Washington instead of an adversary in his own backyard,\u201d he said, referring to Goldman.<\/p>\n
