STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. \u2014 Two girls\u2019 high school soccer players from the Island were named to New York State Sportswriters\/Coaches of Girls Sports (NYSSCOGS) All-State teams, the Advance\/SILive.com has learned.<\/p>\n
Both recipients played for Class AAA teams.<\/p>\n
This year\u2019s All-State honorees from this borough included St. Joseph by-the-Sea striker Serena Salerno and Tottenville striker Adelina Hidric.<\/p>\n
Salerno, a three-year varsity player, was named a fourth team selection. <\/p>\n
The junior, who missed the Vikings\u2019 last three playoff games because of an ankle injury, finished with 17 goals and four assists in 14 contests. She led the Vikings to a 15-3 overall record that included a 12-1 mark in league play during the regular season. Sea won the CHSAA Archdiocesan Tier 1 championship for the third straight season.<\/p>\n
Hidric, a freshman, earned a spot on the fifth team. She helped the Pirates capture their first PSAL city championship since 2006, as well as a perfect 14-0 record in league play.<\/p>\n
