STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. \u2014 GoFundMe\u2019s latest Year in Help report<\/a> ranks Richmond County as the 14th most generous community in America during 2025. <\/p>\n

The list celebrates the generosity of individuals and nonprofits worldwide who assisted those in need throughout the year. According to the report, there were two and a half donations made on the platform every second globally. <\/p>\n

GoFundMe also named New York as the fifth most generous state by the percentage of repeat donors. <\/p>\n

Some of the most notable fundraisers in Staten Island this year include:<\/p>\n

Wail Alselwi, a partner of Staten Island\u2019s Zack\u2019s Finest Deli, who raised over $350,000 for “Grades for Grabs,<\/a>” a community initiative he created. Grades for Grabs offers kids snacks and cash prizes as motivation to improve their grades and build academic confidence, as the Advance\/SILive.com previously reported<\/a>. The Staten Island community stepped up to support the Spinelli family<\/a>, by raising over $124,000 for them after the sudden passing of their patriarch, John Spinelli.Over $100,000 was raised for 2-year-old Aurora Joy Conner after she was diagnosed with B-cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia<\/a>. Her family was profiled by the Advance\/SILive.com earlier this year<\/a>.Staten Islanders raised over $50,000 for Nicholas Pellegrino<\/a>, a former beloved Staten Island high school teacher and coach who was almost killed after being attacked and robbed<\/a> while on vacation in Italy this summer.The Freedom Home in Tottenville, a safe haven where the nonprofit rescue Pit Bulls & Addicts<\/a> rehabilitates its rescue dogs, raised over $35,000 through the Eddie N\u2019 Chooch challenge<\/a>.<\/p>\n

In 2025, GoFundMe marked 15 years of generosity, enabling over $40 billion in aid and supporting more than 165,000 nonprofits since its launch, the report said. This year alone saw over 72 million fundraiser shares, with charity emerging as the fastest-growing category, followed by monthly bills and faith. <\/p>\n

Globally, Ireland secured the top spot for the most generous country for the seventh year in a row. <\/p>\n

Communities rallied to support essential needs, with fundraising for school supplies increasing by 50% and essential expenses rising by 20%, particularly for food insecurity. Food banks were the top community cause, and volunteering fundraisers tripled. <\/p>\n

GoFundMe also helped 95,000 people pursue business dreams and 95,000 donors back young athletes. <\/p>\n
