ANN ARBOR, Mich. \u2014 Sherrone Moore, the lauded head coach of University of Michigan\u2019s storied football program, threw away his $30-million career after his affair with his assistant<\/a> came to light \u2014 and culminated in his stunning arrest for alleged assault.<\/p>\n

The 39-year-old married dad of three\u2019s promising career came to a crashing end quickly Wednesday. He was booted as Michigan\u2019s head coach that afternoon and, within that same hour, he was busted on criminal charges for allegedly breaking into the home of his executive assistant, Paige Shiver, with a knife in hand.<\/p>\n

Moore \u2014 the first black head coach in Michigan history \u2014 is now cooling his heels in Washtenaw County jail on suspicion of assault charges.<\/p>\n

The shocking news came just days after Moore had spoken with reporters as the No. 18-ranked Wolverines began to prepare for the Citrus Bowl later this month, and it caught the college football world by surprise.<\/p>\n

The stunning developments on Thursday included:<\/p>\n

Moore was reported to be \u201csuicidal\u201d and had a knife after he went to Shiver\u2019s apartment following his firing<\/p>\n

He remained in jail Thursday, with a first court appearance scheduled for Friday<\/p>\n

Shiver, 32, was given a 55% raise to $90,000 last year<\/p>\n

The University previously investigated claims of his \u201cinappropriate relationship\u201d with a staffer, but he denied it, according to reports<\/p>\n

He was fired when the staffer came forward with evidence of the affair after he axed her, according to the claims<\/p>\n

Michigan football insiders reported that Moore had \u201cbeen acting strange, berating assistant coaches,\u201d according to ESPN.<\/p>\n

A female caller reported to a 911 dispatcher that Moore was armed with a knife and had been stalking her \u201cfor months,\u201d according to police audio obtained by The Post.<\/p>\n

\u201cMale at the location is attacking her \u2026 said he\u2019s been stalking her for months,\u201d a male voice in the recording can be heard saying in the audio.<\/p>\n

The audio also indicated Moore had threatened to harm himself during the alleged exchange, after which he fled on foot and was arrested at a nearby church.<\/p>\n

The dispatcher said the caller reported Moore had brandished a knife before throwing down the weapon and running away.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s gonna be at the Well Church, 211 Willis Road \u2026 suicidal \u2026 driving a black Chevy Tahoe blacked out,\u201d the Washtenaw County Police dispatcher can be heard saying a short time later.<\/p>\n

Here\u2019s the latest on former Michigan coach Sherrone Moore<\/p>\n

The call came from Shiver\u2019s Ann Arbor address, according to public records, though it was not immediately clear if she was the victim.<\/p>\n

Cops in Pittsfield Township confirmed Wednesday that they were investigating an alleged assault, but didn\u2019t explicitly say Moore was involved.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe incident does not appear to be random in nature, and there appears to be no ongoing threat to the community,\u201d the statement from the Pittsfield police department read.<\/p>\n

No formal charges were filed as of Thursday night.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe matter involving Mr. Moore remains under active investigation by law enforcement, and as a result, we do not expect charging decisions or an arraignment today,\u201d Washtenaw County Prosecutor Eli Savit said in a statement, and confirmed he remained in custody.<\/p>\n

Moore \u2014 who married his wife, Kelli, in 2015 and has three daughters \u2014 was fired \u201cwith cause\u201d by the University on Wednesday after it came out he had an \u201cinappropriate\u201d relationship with a staff member who has not been publicly identified.<\/p>\n

Michigan Athletic Director Warde Manuel announced Moore\u2019s firing just a few hours before his arrest on Wednesday.<\/p>\n

Moore is in custody and being investigated by police after news of his firing from the University of Michigan football coach position surfaced. Sherrone Moore \/ Instagram<\/p>\n

\u201cU-M head football coach Sherrone Moore has been terminated, with cause, effective immediately,\u201d Michigan announced in a statement. \u201cFollowing a University investigation, credible evidence was found that Coach Moore engaged in an inappropriate relationship with a staff member. This conduct constitutes a clear violation of university policy, and U-M maintains zero tolerance for such behavior.\u201d<\/p>\n

Being fired with cause could mean that Michigan has no obligation to pay out the remaining estimated $14.5 million to $16 million on Moore\u2019s contract.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s unclear how long the university had been looking into the relationship between the football coach and the staff member, but Moore had been doing media interviews as recently as Tuesday, when he held a press conference and did a one-on-one interview with WXYZ Detroit.<\/p>\n

Under Moore\u2019s tenure, his assistant, Shiver, saw her salary jump from $58,025 in 2024 to $90,000, without any apparent change in job title, according to publicly available figures on college employee salaries.<\/p>\n

The scene that played out in the dispatcher audio closely mirrored a bombshell local TV interview with John Bacon, a University of Michigan instructor and author with deep ties to the school\u2019s illustrious football program<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Bacon claimed Moore \u201cbroke into an employee\u2019s home in Pittsfield Township \u2026 grabbed a knife, and threatened to harm her and harm himself.\u201d<\/p>\n

According to Bacon, Moore is in protective custody \u201csurrounded by mental health professionals.\u201d<\/p>\n

Even before his shocking firing, the state of Moore\u2019s mental health was being eyed with growing concern within the university.<\/p>\n

Moore had recently been acting \u201cstrange,\u201d according to ESPN \u2014 college football reporter Pete Thamel writing that the situation had been \u201cpercolating\u201d for the last few weeks.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere had been a lot of uneasiness on the Michigan staff, sources had told me Sherrone Moore had been acting strange, berating assistant coaches, not acting in a normal way,\u201d Thamel said Wednesday on \u201cSportsCenter\u201d after Michigan brought down the axe.<\/p>\n
