According to the department, precipitation will begin around 9 p.m. Saturday, with the heaviest snow expected between 1 a.m. and 5 a.m. Sunday.

The department advises New York residents to stay off roads during active precipitation. If travel is necessary, drive slowly and carefully.

To assist with icy roadways, the department will begin spreading brine on miles of highways, ramps and shoulders starting at midnight Friday, as well as spreading pounds of salt on roads, highways and bike lanes at the first sign of precipitation. Bike lanes will be serviced at the same time as car lanes.

The department will start plowing when snow depths reach 2 inches. When this occurs, residents can track snow removal vehicles at nyc.gov/PlowNYC.

Property owners remain responsible for clearing sidewalks. To ensure DSNY snow clearing operations remain active, property owners cannot push snow into streets or bike lanes. If possible, sidewalks should have a minimum four-foot clear path.

Property owners must also clear their sidewalks in a timely manner. If snow stops between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m., property owners must clear sidewalks within four hours. If it stops between 5 p.m. and 9 p.m., they have 14 hours. If it stops between 9 p.m. and 7 a.m., sidewalks must be cleared by 11 a.m.

Trash collection will continue on its regular Monday schedule unless otherwise notified, according to the department.

Residents can find information about the storm response at nyc.gov/snow, by calling 311 or by signing up for NotifyNYC, the city’s free emergency notification system.

STATEN ISLAND, NY — The New York City Department of Sanitation has issued a snow alert for Saturday,…

[39
9,24,63,134,136,135
0":"post-69262","1":"post","2":"type-post","3":"status-publish","4":"format-standard","5":"has-post-thumbnail","7":"category-staten-island","8":"tag-new-york","9":"tag-new-york-city","10":"tag-nyc","11":"tag-staten-island","12":"tag-staten-island-headlines","13":"tag-staten-island-news
["GET
