This season, the city\u2019s serving up a blizzard of new ways to feel festive<\/a> \u2014 from a just-unveiled ice rink at the top of Central Park, to hot chocolate so couture it should come with a runway, to nostalgia-packed subway rides that make the \u201cPolar Express\u201d look basic and hidden-gem holiday haunts that TikTok is desperately trying to gatekeep.<\/p>\n

So bundle up: here are unique ways to sleigh the season without doing the usual song and dance.<\/p>\n

Sip hot chocolate like a tastemaker\"Tourist-trap<\/p>\n

Tourist-trap hot chocolate? Hard pass. According to NYC\u2019s cocoa connoisseur Rachel Brotman \u2014 with nearly 120 tastings since 2023 \u2014 the city\u2019s cocoa game is now haute. Emmy Park for NY Post<\/p>\n

Forget the powdery stuff served in souvenir mugs \u2014 NYC\u2019s reigning cocoa connoisseur, Rachel Brotman, (who\u2019s sampled close to 120 cups since 2023<\/a>), says the city\u2019s hot chocolate scene has officially reached couture status.<\/p>\n

Her top-tier picks for 2025? Caff\u00e9 Panna, Rigor Hill Market, Frenchette Bakery, Hani\u2019s and LA Burdick.<\/p>\n

\u201cMy preferred cup of hot chocolate is thick, bitter and rich, and preferably is topped with a homemade marshmallow that will melt into the drink and cut the richness,\u201d Brotman, known as @thecarboholic<\/a> on social media, told The Post, noting that she knows exactly what she\u2019s looking for in a perfect cup.<\/p>\n

All five of her winners, she says, \u201care rich and have a deep chocolate-y taste,\u201d though each has its own personality.<\/p>\n

\"<br>\u201cThere\u2019s<\/p>\n

\u201cThere\u2019s a time and a place for a more \u2018Swiss-Miss-like\u2019 cup, but those will never be my go-to,\u201d Brotman told The Post. Emmy Park for NY Post<\/p>\n

Take Tribeca\u2019s Rigor Hill Market at 227 W. Broadway, whose cocoa she describes as: \u201cRich like the inside of a lava cake. It\u2019s more dessert-like than it is sippable, and is even served in a soup cup rather than a cup, but I love it.\u201d<\/p>\n

Or Gramercy\u2019s Caff\u00e8 Panna, the Italian-style stunner at 77 Irving Place that comes topped with their signature panna: \u201cThe pro-move here is to pour this hot chocolate over your ice cream as if it\u2019s hot fudge.\u201d<\/p>\n

If you prefer something you can actually drink rather than shovel, she points to SoHo\u2019s L.A. Burdick at 156 Prince St.: \u201cIt\u2019s made from milk and melted chocolate, and is rich and high quality, but not \u2018pudding-like\u2019 like some of the others.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cWhen searching for the perfect cup of hot chocolate, I\u2019m looking for something rich and velvety,\u201d Brotman said, pointing to Caff\u00e8 Panna\u2019s creation above. Emmy Park for NY Post<\/p>\n

She also swears by her signature spoon test to \u201cthe consistency of the drink.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cDoes the chocolate coat the spoon? This gives me an idea of how rich and melted-chocolate-bar-like it might be,\u201d she added.<\/p>\n

And presentation counts \u2014 but only if it\u2019s elevated, not gimmicky.<\/p>\n

\u201cI also love the way that the surface of a richer hot chocolate kind of \u2018cracks\u2019 when you first dip your spoon into it,\u201d she said, adding that this is true of all of her favorite hot cocoa spots in Gotham this year.<\/p>\n

Start at the Church of Sweden Christmas Shop<\/a> on East 48th \u2014 a soaring Scandinavian hideaway with festive d\u00e9cor, sleek design gifts, baked goods and a cozy loft where you can close your eyes and pretend you\u2019re in Stockholm.<\/p>\n

TikTok has already tried \u2014 and failed \u2014 to gatekeep it.<\/p>\n

Creator Kayla Krasnow dubbed it<\/a> a \u201chidden holiday gem in New York City,\u201d tucked inside a historic townhouse with \u201cbeautiful architecture,\u201d festive d\u00e9cor, shelves of books, and a full-blown holiday market spread across its main floor and basement.<\/p>\n

The market runs Wednesday through Saturday from noon to 6 p.m., and Sundays from 12:30 to 4 p.m.<\/p>\n

Add a couple more off-the-radar markets<\/a>, and you\u2019ve got a whole afternoon of calm, curated browsing \u2014 no elbows required.<\/p>\n

Skate Manhattan \u2014 without the mosh pit\"This<\/p>\n
