Video released by authorities offered a first glimpse at the alleged gunman who\u00a0killed 2 and injured 9 in a shooting at Brown University<\/a>\u00a0on Saturday evening.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The clip showed the alleged suspect turning a corner after leaving the area where the\u00a0shooting took place,<\/a>\u00a0Providence Police Department Commander Timothy O\u2019Hara said at a late-night press conference.<\/p>\n

The gunman calmly walked onto Hope Street in full dark attire.<\/p>\n

He appeared to be wearing either a hood or a face covering that obscured his face from the cameras, according to the clip\u00a0provided by police<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The clip showed the alleged suspect turning a corner after leaving the area where the shooting took place, Providence Police Department Commander Timothy O\u2019Hara said at a late-night press conference. Providence Police\/X<\/p>\n

The suspected gunman,\u00a0who witnesses described as appearing in his 30s,\u00a0then took a right on Waterman Street, O\u2019Hara said.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Witnesses also described that he could have been wearing a gray camo face mask, the commander added.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Providence police took a person of interest into custody early Sunday,\u00a0according to NBC10<\/a>, citing officials.<\/p>\n

Following the capture, Brown University was permitted to end the campus-wide shelter-in-place that it had implemented when two students were killed<\/p>\n

The unidentified gunman opened fire in a single classroom at the Ivy League school\u2019s Barus & Holley Engineering building just after 4 p.m.<\/p>\n

A group of students was inside the classroom for a review session held by teaching assistants ahead of a\u00a0final exam for their Principles of Economics class.<\/p>\n

Professor Rachel Friedberg, who leads the class but wasn\u2019t at the group study, learned about the shooting from one of the teaching assistants.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe room has stadium seating with doors that enter at the top,\u201d Friedberg told\u00a0Ocean State Media.<\/a>\u00a0\u201cHe said that the shooter came in the doors, yelled something \u2014 he couldn\u2019t remember what he yelled \u2014 and started shooting.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cStudents started to scramble to try to get away from the shooter, trying to get lower down in the stadium seating, and people got shot,\u201d Friedberg recalled the teaching assistant saying. \u201cI don\u2019t know if they\u2019re the only ones who got shot or not.\u201d<\/p>\n

The teaching assistant was not wounded in the shooting but went to the hospital with several students who were shot.<\/p>\n

All 11 victims shot were students, Brown University President Christina H. Paxson said Sunday morning.<\/p>\n

The nine wounded students were transported to local hospitals, where six are listed as in critical, but stable condition. Another student is in critical condition, Paxson revealed.<\/p>\n

One student is being treated and is in stable condition, while another was treated and released.<\/p>\n

\u201cI know the passing hours of this emergency have been filled with stress and anxiety for many in our community. This is an unimaginably tragic day \u2014a day that no university community is ever prepared for. While we prepare for major crises, we always pray this day never comes. This is a time for our campus to care for each other and support each other.<\/p>\n

Officials haven\u2019t identified the students.<\/p>\n

Friedberg wasn\u2019t aware whether any of the two people killed were her students.<\/p>\n

\u201cI don\u2019t know if they were my students. It\u2019s really surreal to think about. Just horrible,\u201d she told the outlet.<\/p>\n

The school has canceled any exam scheduled for Sunday and will release future academic schedules later.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cOur full focus right now is on our community, their safety and providing support for the victims and their families. I am not able to share further information about the shooting victims at this time,\u201d Paxson wrote.<\/p>\n
