(Courtesy\/the Maffeo family)Staten Island Advance<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"VBK6ZR6DRBH5JPXP4BMOZHPAZE\">Through shared memories and heartfelt gestures, Toni Ann and Pasquale Maffeo have created highly anticipated family customs during throughout the year \u2014 but especially during the Christmas season.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"KWNKBYLHURG5JIMW6VAHX44AQQ\">The Maffeos were married in 1978, and early on in their marriage Pasquale\u2019s parents, Rose and Pasquale Maffeo, gifted the couple with the first three buildings of the \u201cDepartment 56 Original Snow Village Series,\u201d a timeless collectible that has several components.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"BXCPGWVCDNCMJAHBL6VXI6MSJM\">The glazed ceramic collection consists of charming buildings like churches, shops and homes in lighted American-town style buildings.<\/p>\n<p><img fetchpriority=\"low\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Village\" class=\"article__image-content\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ny\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/QLKRHECW3FCXROOYUITTLTRTEY.JPG\"  \/>A close up of the Maffeo Christmas Snow Village. (Courtesy\/Maffeo family)Staten Island Advance<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"JIO5XQGS7JGVFJONFY7YKIE2DQ\">\u201cMy mother-in-law, Rose, began the tradition with us,\u201d said Toni Ann Maffeo, who now collects the snow village which consists of a church, a house and children holding hands around a Christmas tree.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"GDDUBRFFZRHQNHDV4JMGIJMHKQ\">\u201cAnd after that we were hooked,\u201d she continued. \u201cAnd I\u2019ve been collecting one to two pieces a year since then and mixing in \u201cLemax Christmas Collectibles\u201d \u2014 detailed miniature village pieces that include lighted building, figurines and accessories \u2014which are perfect to build a magical Christmas world.<\/p>\n<p><img fetchpriority=\"low\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Christmas Village\" class=\"article__image-content\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ny\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/W7I2JCRATNB27CQ5FZVNN7HKWU.JPG\"  \/>Sam&#8217;s Barber Shop is part of the extensive collection in the Christmas Village. (Courtesy\/Maffeo family)Staten Island Advance<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"SSG66SDFG5CM5GEZORCX37ZCMY\">\u201cI won the nativity set at a fundraiser at LiGreci\u2019s Staaten 30 or more years ago, when I was a parishioner at St. Roch\u2019s and I purchased a raffle ticket and won,\u201d she recounted.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"HI5ZF5X5XVEZVN4SCV4PG52J5Y\">Maffeo notes that what\u2019s extra special about is that kids who are on the autism spectrum handcrafted that set \u2014 which actually resembles Lenox china.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"MOVMDR2T2FBNZFRVK5VEVPR7SE\">\u201cMichael, our oldest grandchild who is 8 now, is really into it and has been fascinated ever since he was just a young child,\u201d she continued. \u201cWe call him \u2018Mr Christmas\u2019 because he has the spirit. And this year Marianna, Michael\u2019s 6 year-old sister, helped build the train tracks for our train. It takes about a week or so to put up.
