household income rose thousands of dollars.

Data from the U.S. Census Bureau’s American Community Survey 2024 1-year-estimates shows that the median household income in New York City was $81,228 last year, slightly below the national median household income of $81,604.

The $81,228 median household income represents a 6.1% increase from 2023, when it was $76,577.

Increases were observed in four of the five boroughs — Brooklyn, Queens, Manhattan and Staten Island — with the Bronx seeing the only decrease year-over-year.

In Brooklyn, the median household income increased roughly 5.4%, from $76,912 in 2023 to $81,027 in 2024.

Queens saw its figure increase by approximately 4.1%, from $81,929 to $85,273.

In Manhattan, the median household income went from $101,078 to $106,403, representing a 5.3% increase.

On Staten Island, the median household earned $97,911 in 2024, roughly 2.5% more than the $95,543 earned in 2023.

The Bronx, the only borough to see its figure fall, reported a median household income of $46,040, which was 1.7% less than the $46,838 reported the year prior.

Disparities persist on Staten Island

While Staten Island’s overall median household income has grown significantly over the past decade, a <a conducted by the Advance/SILive.com found that vast income disparities persist across the borough.

For the purposes of that analysis, the Advance/SILive.com used data from the U.S. Census Bureau’s 2023 American Community Survey (ACS) 5-year Estimates, as the 5-year estimates tend to reflect the situation more accurately when dealing with smaller populations, like ZIP codes, as opposed to the borough as a whole.

Throughout Staten Island, the median household income was $98,290, though there were vast disparities across different neighborhoods, with households in the highest earning areas earning nearly twice as much as those in the lowest earning.

In the 10307 ZIP code, which covers Tottenville, the median household income was $138,807, which is roughly 41.2% above the borough-wide number.

In the 10304 ZIP code, which covers Clifton, Concord, Emerson Hill, Stapleton and parts of Todt Hill and Dongan Hills, the median household income was $71,506, which is roughly 27.2% below the borough-wide total.

Here’s a look at the
