Abdul Carter is no longer a sleeping Giant.<\/p>\n

He showed up Sunday as an awakened Giant, the player the Giants expected to wreak havoc as the third-overall pick of the 2025 NFL Draft.<\/p>\n

\u201cI feel like it was a statement,\u201d Carter said after Commanders 29, Giants 21<\/a>, \u201cbut it would have been more satisfying if we got the win.\u201d<\/p>\n

The statement was don\u2019t sleep on him anymore.<\/p>\n

\u201cI just watched more film, being better at being a pro, being a better teammate. I feel that\u2019s something I need to focus on,\u201d Carter said.<\/p>\n

Carter was at his game-wrecking best in the fourth quarter when he helped throw Jeremy McNichols for an 8-yard loss, forced a fumble and recovered it. <\/p>\n

He lateraled to Paulson Adebo who lateraled to Jevon Holland, but the replay official reviewed the runner was not down by contact ruling.<\/p>\n

\u201cI wish I scored. I gotta watch it back,\u201d Carter said. \u201cI was being tackled. I saw my teammate open, tried to pitch it to him, make a play.\u201d<\/p>\n

Carter strip-sacked Marcus Mariota on the second drive and finished with three tackles for loss.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe was playing with his hair on fire today,\u201d interim coach Mike Kafka said. \u201cSo that\u2019s one step. He\u2019s got to keep on stacking those days.\u201d<\/p>\n

Perhaps the light has gone on. <\/p>\n

Perhaps he will be on time and wide awake, and there will be no reason for Kafka to sit him for one series or one quarter again.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt was his coming-out party,\u201d Brian Burns said. \u201cHe had a good game. I feels like he, for the most part, just a feeling, \u2019cause we didn\u2019t watch the film yet, I feel like he executed his assignments. Then he came up with some big plays that we needed. So yeah, I\u2019m proud of him right now.\u201d<\/p>\n

Burns, for his part, has done what he can to get Carter to grow up and wake up.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou see growth from him,\u201d Kafka said. \u201cHe\u2019s taken accountability for it. He\u2019s learned from those things. He\u2019s in here early, staying late and trying to make himself a better player. And he\u2019s helping the team. And that\u2019s really what it\u2019s all about. He\u2019s not only just helping himself be prepped and ready for the game, but he\u2019s helping the unit. He\u2019s helping his group. He\u2019s helping the team be more productive.\u201d<\/p>\n

Carter now has 2.5 sacks.<\/p>\n

\u201cGreatness is doing it over weeks,\u201d Dexter Lawrence said. \u201cBeing consistent. That\u2019s what he can get to. He\u2019s just got to stick with the process and understand who he is and keep that approach to the game every week.\u201d<\/p>\n

Carter vows that he will.<\/p>\n
