THE BRONX, N.Y. (PIX11) \u2014 A human leg with sneakers was found during an archaeological dig at Van Cortlandt Park in the Bronx on Friday morning, police said.<\/p>\n
The human remains<\/a> were discovered in a wooded area inside the popular park near East 233rd Street and Exit 13 of the Major Deegan Expressway at around 11:45 a.m., according to the NYPD.<\/p>\n More Local News <\/a><\/p>\n Police said members from the University of Connecticut were looking for Revolutionary War relics when they found the leg with sneakers. Van Cortlandt Park was the site of the only Revolutionary War battle that happened entirely in the park, according to the Van Cortlandt Museum<\/a>. <\/p>\n A few days before the shocking discovery, a human skull<\/a> was found near the Coney Island Boardwalk. Police said the skeletal remains were discovered in the bushes between West 32nd\u00a0and West 33rd\u00a0streets around 6 p.m. on Dec. 9.<\/p>\n It\u2019s unclear how long the skull had been there.<\/p>\n The cause of death in both cases was pending, cops said.<\/p>\n Submit tips to police by calling Crime Stoppers at 1-800-577-TIPS (8477), visiting\u00a0crimestoppers.nypdonline.org<\/a>, downloading the NYPD Crime Stoppers mobile app, or texting 274637 (CRIMES) then entering TIP577.
