Flogging Molly leader Dave King has opened up for the first time about the traumatic brain injury that he suffered<\/a> earlier this year that doctors say nearly ended his life. \u201cThey told my wife she may never see me again,\u201d he said on the new episode of the BrooklynVegan Interview Podcast<\/a>. \u201c[They said] if I did in fact survive, I would probably be a vegetable for the rest of my life.\u201d And then he added with a laugh, \u201cBut I\u2019m a talking vegetable!\u201d<\/p>\n

Dave was told by doctors as he was leaving the hospital that he was a \u201cmiracle.\u201d He\u2019s since been steadily recovering, and he\u2019s preparing to make his return to the stage at the October 2026 edition of Flogging Molly\u2019s Salty Dog Cruise<\/a>. He also mentioned potential plans to play Warped Tour<\/a> in 2026 and he told us that he\u2019s already been writing new Flogging Molly songs.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s a great thing to be able to do, to pick up a guitar and play and even create something new from that experience,\u201d Dave says. \u201cI\u2019m getting excited about getting into a room again with my darling wife and my bandmates and working together again.\u201d<\/p>\n

During our conversation, Dave spoke about the scary incident that required him to undergo three brain surgeries and led to him spending three weeks in a coma, and the road to recovery he\u2019s been on every since. His mood was nothing but positive and uplifting, and he says that, considering what he\u2019s gone through, he\u2019s doing really well.
