{"id":72550,"date":"2025-12-16T19:47:06","date_gmt":"2025-12-16T19:47:06","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ny\/72550\/"},"modified":"2025-12-16T19:47:06","modified_gmt":"2025-12-16T19:47:06","slug":"nyc-issues-150-snow-shoveling-summonses-on-staten-island-after-storm","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ny\/72550\/","title":{"rendered":"NYC issues 150 snow shoveling summonses on Staten Island after storm"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"QMFM3FK6ORCCBI3JZ5Z7T2ML7M\">STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. \u2014 New York City officials issued 150 summonses across Staten Island for sidewalk snow shoveling failures after Sunday\u2019s storm. <\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"BO4J2276VBACFN7YB4YQW773UY\">Joshua Goodman, the deputy commissioner for public affairs and customer experience at the Department of Sanitation, said those Staten Island fines were among about 4,000 issued citywide since 4:30 p.m. Sunday.\u201c<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"X3CIETTWOFANXCRCEIJC6FMHMY\">\u201cIt\u2019s easy to focus on the property owner getting the summons \u2014 but remember, there are 8.5 million people in the city who want to be able to walk to work or school safely,\u201d he said. \u201cEvery single one of us deserve to be able to do so, and clearing snow and ice from sidewalks is one of the responsibilities of anyone who owns property in New York City.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"7CPUV3B5IRC6VJWYFYEMCCVWE4\">The city requires property and business owners to clear snow and ice off sidewalks and other pedestrian walkways to create a 4-foot-wide path for passersby. <\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"BW7PBLP3UNEB3DNBRIS7TLN34A\">Fines for the initial summons are from $100 to $150 and for every summons thereafter, between $150 and $350, according to a city information sheet. <\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"VYX7QYPK4FHCROVQT3FPTWXVHE\">Complaints piled in from around the Island about unshoveled sidewalks following Sunday\u2019s storm that saw consistent totals of about 5-6 inches across the borough. <\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"B4CISHHI7NAGJLKUC3OYIQMDNM\">A resident took video in Oakwood Beach that showed an unshoveled sidewalk near the intersection of Guyon and Tarrytown avenues. <\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"J46KSTV5TJFS7P5NWA23GZVQXY\">While Staten Island saw consistent totals, snowfall totals varied significantly across the region, according to AccuWeather Meteorologist Tyler Royes.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"PMBE7QT7MBGY5M5BLJRLGUK2HA\">Newark Airport recorded 2.4 inches, while areas further east saw much higher accumulations: Munchen received nearly five inches; Plainfield, 4.7 inches, and Cranford, 4.5 inches.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"RE52LWB5IBCBHFAT2SXUU72VV4\">To the east of Staten Island, John F.
