{"id":7572,"date":"2025-10-18T13:43:16","date_gmt":"2025-10-18T13:43:16","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ny\/7572\/"},"modified":"2025-10-18T13:43:16","modified_gmt":"2025-10-18T13:43:16","slug":"high-a-brooklyn-season-recap-cyclones-win-it-all","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ny\/7572\/","title":{"rendered":"High-A Brooklyn Season Recap: Cyclones Win It All"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The High-A Brooklyn Cyclones, named for the Coney Island roller coaster, had a fitting year.<\/p>\n<p>Brooklyn rode a slew of quality prospects to a 46-20 record and the top of the South Atlantic League in the first half\u00a0 \u2013 and after a short pause for the All-Star break and a bunch of promotions \u2013 plummeted to near the bottom of the second-half standings with a 26-39 mark.<\/p>\n<p><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-248088\" class=\"size-full wp-image-248088\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ny\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/cyclones.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1024\" height=\"576\"  \/><\/p>\n<p id=\"caption-attachment-248088\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Photo by the Brooklyn Cyclones<\/p>\n<p>The High-A playoffs pit the winners of the first half against the second, so all that good work early in the season was rewarded with a postseason berth. Brooklyn took advantage, sweeping a pair of best-of-three series en route to its first South Atlantic League <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=Uj4WcIMojoc\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">title<\/a>. (The Cyclones won Penn League titles in 2001 and 2019.)<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/register\/player.fcgi?id=benge-000car&amp;utm_medium=linker&amp;utm_source=metsmerizedonline.com&amp;utm_campaign=2025-10-17_br\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Carson Benge<\/a> (.302\/.417\/.480, four homers, 60 games), <a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/register\/player.fcgi?id=reimer000jac&amp;utm_medium=linker&amp;utm_source=metsmerizedonline.com&amp;utm_campaign=2025-10-17_br\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Jacob Reimer<\/a> (.284\/.384\/.502, eight homers, 61 games), <a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/register\/player.fcgi?id=suero-000chr&amp;utm_medium=linker&amp;utm_source=metsmerizedonline.com&amp;utm_campaign=2025-10-17_br\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Chris Suero<\/a> (.240\/.382\/.455, 13 homers, 74 games) and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/register\/player.fcgi?id=ewing-000aj-&amp;utm_medium=linker&amp;utm_source=metsmerizedonline.com&amp;utm_campaign=2025-10-17_br\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">A.J. Ewing<\/a> (.288\/.387\/.388, 44 steals, 78 games) led the offense. The quartet are all in the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mlb.com\/milb\/prospects\/mets\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">top 15<\/a> of MLB Pipeline\u2019s Met prospects. None were on the Cyclones for the playoffs because they all had been promoted.<\/p>\n<p>There were two top-30 prospects who spent all year with Brooklyn. Outfielder <a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/register\/player.fcgi?id=serran005eli&amp;utm_medium=linker&amp;utm_source=metsmerizedonline.com&amp;utm_campaign=2025-10-17_br\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Eli Serrano<\/a>, 22, slashed .222\/.332\/.358 with seven homers and ended the season the No. 12 Met prospect on MLB Pipeline. Shortstop <a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/register\/player.fcgi?id=baro--000bos&amp;utm_medium=linker&amp;utm_source=metsmerizedonline.com&amp;utm_campaign=2025-10-17_br\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Boston Baro<\/a>, 21, hit .224\/.282\/.321 with four homers and 28 stolen bases. He\u2019s ranked No. 21.<\/p>\n<p>On the mound, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/register\/player.fcgi?id=girton000bre&amp;utm_medium=linker&amp;utm_source=metsmerizedonline.com&amp;utm_campaign=2025-10-17_br\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Brendan Girton<\/a> (3-3, 2.59 ERA, 91 strikeouts, 76 1\/3 innings pitched), <a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/register\/player.fcgi?id=hall--002noa&amp;utm_medium=linker&amp;utm_source=metsmerizedonline.com&amp;utm_campaign=2025-10-17_br\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Noah Hall<\/a> (5-7, 2.72 ERA, 115 strikeouts, 112 2\/3 innings pitched), and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/register\/player.fcgi?id=diaz--005joe&amp;utm_medium=linker&amp;utm_source=metsmerizedonline.com&amp;utm_campaign=2025-10-17_br\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Joel D\u00edaz<\/a> (5-5, 3.80 ERA, 98 strikeouts, 106 2\/3 innings pitched) were the top three in games started. Girton, a 2024 10th-round pick from the University of Oklahoma, threw five <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mlb.com\/video\/brendan-girton-spins-five-perfect-innings\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">perfect<\/a> innings in June. He finished the year at Double-A Binghamton.<\/p>\n<p>Hall, 24, was there for the playoffs, throwing 4 1\/3 innings of one-run ball in Brooklyn\u2019s 13-1 victory over the Hub City Spartanburgers in Game 1 of the championship series. D\u00edaz was still around, too, and fired 6 2\/3 scoreless frames in the 4-1 semifinals-clinching win over the Greensboro Grasshoppers.<\/p>\n<p>Some other pitchers of note who suited up for the Cyclones (stats are their numbers in Brooklyn only):<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/register\/player.fcgi?id=watson007wil&amp;utm_medium=linker&amp;utm_source=metsmerizedonline.com&amp;utm_campaign=2025-10-17_br\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Will Watson<\/a>, 1-3, 1.70 ERA, 77 strikeouts, 63 2\/3 innings, No. 11 Met prospect on MLB Pipeline<br \/>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/register\/player.fcgi?id=santuc000jon&amp;utm_medium=linker&amp;utm_source=metsmerizedonline.com&amp;utm_campaign=2025-10-17_br\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Jonathan Santucci<\/a>, 5-4, 3.46 ERA, 75 strikeouts, 67 2\/3 innings, No. 14<br \/>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/register\/player.fcgi?id=ross--001dyl&amp;utm_medium=linker&amp;utm_source=metsmerizedonline.com&amp;utm_campaign=2025-10-17_br\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Dylan Ross<\/a>, 2-0, 1.54 ERA, 23 strikeouts, 11 2\/3 innings, No. 20<br \/>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/search\/search.fcgi?pid=lamber004rya,lamber005rya&amp;search=Ryan+Lambert&amp;utm_medium=linker&amp;utm_source=metsmerizedonline.com&amp;utm_campaign=2025-10-17_br\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Ryan Lambert<\/a>, 1.13 ERA, 17 strikeouts, eight innings, No. 22<br \/>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/register\/player.fcgi?id=thornt003zac&amp;utm_medium=linker&amp;utm_source=metsmerizedonline.com&amp;utm_campaign=2025-10-17_br\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Zach Thornton<\/a>, 3-0, 0.44 ERA, 25 strikeouts, 20 2\/3 innings, No. 23<br \/>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/register\/player.fcgi?id=gordon001rj-&amp;utm_medium=linker&amp;utm_source=metsmerizedonline.com&amp;utm_campaign=2025-10-17_br\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">R.J. Gordon<\/a>, 5-2, 3.06 ERA, 76 strikeouts, 67 2\/3 innings, No. 25<\/p>\n<p>Thornton, a 23-year-old lefty, was the SAL Pitcher of the Month in April. After moving up to Binghamton, he went 3-2 with a 2.60 ERA in 10 starts covering 52 innings, striking out 53 and walking nine.<\/p>\n<p>All of these pitchers were promoted.
