TGL is running billboard advertisements in midtown Manhattan and downtown Atlanta for the month of December ahead of the league beginning its second season next week. TGL\u2019s Season 2 starts Sunday, Dec. 28, at 3pm ET on ABC with a rematch of last year\u2019s championship between New York Golf Club and Atlanta Drive GC.<\/p>\n
To ramp up interest, the league has been running animated and static video board animations at a number of locations in both cities. Billboards in New York are near Penn Station and Madison Square Garden, as well as Times Square and Broadway. In Atlanta, the ads are positioned near State Farm Arena and Mercedes-Benz Stadium. They began running on Dec. 2 and last through the season opener.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt just goes to the bigger vision and plan to build fandom around our teams and the communities and the markets, the cities where our teams are,\u201d said Pete Jung, TGL\u2019s new CMO. \u201cIt\u2019s one of many things that we want to continue to do and we\u2019ll do more of on a local basis to build that kind of fandom.\u201d<\/p>\n
Jung, whose new role was announced two weeks ago, said the goal in Season 2 is to continue familiarizing fans and viewers with TGL and becoming complementary to the PGA Tour.<\/p>\n
\u201cI would say that\u2019s the biggest thing. I\u2019d say we have more opportunity to create awareness and understanding,\u201d Jung said.<\/p>\n
This is the first time TGL and its parent company TMRW Sports have bought ad space in such markets to promote the league. Atlanta Drive GC, which is owned by AMB Sports and Entertainment, bought local billboards in Atlanta earlier this spring when the team won TGL\u2019s inaugural SoFi Cup.<\/p>\n
Jung said he wouldn\u2019t rule out similar ad buys as the league gets closer to its postseason, which begins in March.<\/p>\n
\u201cWhether it\u2019s out of home or not, just localized investment,\u201d Jung said. \u201cWhen we get to the playoffs, we\u2019re going to double down on that whether it\u2019s out of home or other forms of promotion.\u201d<\/p>\n
