It\u2019s always hard to predict, but that would be my best guess.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Spotrac pegged the Mets payroll last season at $341.7 million, which ranked only behind the Dodgers in MLB.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The Post reported the Mets calculate their payroll as standing at $310 million to $320 million with multiple holes remaining, and it\u2019s unlikely the team would surge into the Dodgers stratosphere of $400 million.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Cohen, in a follow-up post, indicated that many payroll calculations are short of reality.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPayroll watchers always forget to budget for waiver claims, player movement from minors to majors and trade deadline moves,\u201d Cohen said. \u201cThat\u2019s how it typically works.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><img style=\"aspect-ratio:1.49926794;display:block\" fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" data-modal-image=\"37972931\" width=\"885\" height=\"590\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ny\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/new-york-mets-owner-steve-98743773.jpg\" alt=\"New York Mets owner Steve Cohen watches Spring Training.\" class=\"wp-image-37972931\"  \/>Steve Cohen during spring training 2025. The team <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2025\/12\/13\/sports\/mets-sign-infielder-jorge-polanco-for-40-million-after-losing-pete-alonso\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">signed Jorge Polanco<\/a> to a two-year contract worth $40 million. <\/p>\n<p>Also, reliever Devin Williams arrived on a three-year contract worth $51 million. Marcus Semien, the return from Texas in the Nimmo trade, will receive $24 million in 2026. <\/p>\n<p>The Mets also agreed in recent days to a two-year contract worth $22 million with reliever Luke Weaver.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Alonso received a five-year deal worth $155 million from the Orioles a day after D\u00edaz agreed to a three-year contract worth $69 million with the Dodgers. Both players opted out of contracts after the World Series.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Semien\u2019s salary is the third highest on the team, behind Juan Soto ($51 million) and Francisco Lindor ($34 million).\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The Mets still have an outfield hole to fill and potential spots in the starting rotation and bullpen they will address. Senga is due $15 million each of the next two seasons on a contract that includes a conditional club option for 2028 at the same salary.
