Dr. Beverley Joan Short, affectionately known to many as \u201cJoan,\u201d passed away on Oct. 8 on Staten Island. A graduate of the University of Tennessee, where she completed both her undergraduate degree and later her doctor of medicine at the University of Tennessee Medical School, her career in medicine was marked by an unwavering dedication to children\u2019s health. Her life\u2019s work in pediatrics was a blend of her love for children, her community and her unyielding commitment to making the world a healthier, more compassionate place. Joan R. Speranza, 92, of Port Richmond, passed away peacefully on Tuesday at Staten Island University Hospital, Ocean Breeze. Born and raised in Port Richmond, she was a lifelong Staten Islander who married Rocco \u201cRocky\u201d Speranza on May 26, 1956. She was an active parishioner at St. Roch\u2019s Church and volunteered with the St. Roch\u2019s School PTA. She will be remembered for her kindness, generosity, and unwavering devotion to her family. She is survived by her two sons, Frank and Rocco, and her daughter, Janet Speranza.
