Years before\u00a0Nick Reiner\u00a0was charged with two counts of first-degree murder<\/a> in the deaths of his parents, Rob and Michele Reiner, several people in contact with the family recognized red flags in his behavior.<\/p>\n

One of those people worked alongside Nick in the production of \u201cFamily Guy.\u201d<\/p>\n

In 2014, Nick joined the crew as an intern fresh off of a stint in rehab. <\/p>\n

He interned for the long-running TV show for a few months, and a production assistant who also worked on the show around the same time spoke to Fox News Digital about his impression of Nick, who he remembers as \u201ca dark, twisted, kind of rough kid.\u201d<\/p>\n

The man claimed that Rob was the one who got Nick the job, saying, \u201cReally, the executive producers were like, \u2018Just let him hang out. Like, he doesn\u2019t need to have a lot of responsibility. Don\u2019t let him touch anything. Just let this kid hang out, it\u2019s a favor to\u00a0his dad, who we adore, and he\u2019s trying to get back on his feet.’\u201d<\/p>\n

He said that he and Nick got \u201creally close\u201d because, as an intern, he was shadowing him around four hours every day.<\/p>\n

\u201cI was really compelled by Nick Reiner,\u201d the man admitted. \u201cHe\u2019s stuck in my brain for all these years.\u201d<\/p>\n

When he met Nick, he was just getting his life back on track. He was sober, though the man did say that he felt like Nick was\u00a0\u201cstruggling\u201d with his sobriety<\/a>. <\/p>\n

A former co-worker of Nick Reiner\u00a0says he was \u201ca dark, twisted, kind of rough kid\u201d before his parents\u2019 deaths. FilmMagic<\/p>\n

He claimed that Nick had been homeless for a time before he started working on \u201cFamily Guy.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cHe felt like this really raw kid,\u201d he recalled. \u201cHe had a very dark sense of humor \u2026 He was an introverted human, like he wasn\u2019t very loud. But he was also funny, and he felt very human. I remember really liking him, like I thought he was a really nice kid.\u201d<\/p>\n

At the same time, he acknowledged that Nick was \u201cdark\u201d and \u201cnot in the best\u00a0mental health\u00a0space\u201d when he knew him.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe had a very dark sense of humor \u2026 He was an introverted human, like he wasn\u2019t very loud,\u201d the \u201cFamily Guy\u201d co-worker said. Nick Reiner \/ Instagram<\/p>\n

\u201cHe was a really troubled kid,\u201d he told Fox News Digital.<\/p>\n

He said that he and some other crew members encouraged Nick to pursue stand-up comedy when he expressed an interest in it, telling them that with his sense of humor and his Hollywood connections, he\u2019d easily be able to get his foot in the door. <\/p>\n

He recalled Nick landing sets at\u00a0Los Angeles\u2019 famed venue, The Comedy Store, but he said he never went to a show.<\/p>\n

Here\u2019s the latest on the death of Rob Reiner:<\/p>\n

During the time they worked together on \u201cFamily Guy,\u201d the man said Rob would drop Nick off and pick him up every day.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt felt like the family wanted him to succeed, and it felt like they were constantly trying to set him up for success,\u201d he remembered. \u201cAnd he was just this dark, twisted, kind of rough kid.\u201d<\/p>\n

Although he and Nick worked closely together, the friendship wasn\u2019t one that lasted beyond the job. <\/p>\n

When the internship was over, they didn\u2019t stay in close contact, though they did remain friends on social media \u2014 enough that he nearly reached out when he read the news that two people were found dead in Rob\u2019s home on Dec. 14.<\/p>\n

The man said Rob Reiner would drop Nick off and pick him up every day. FilmMagic<\/p>\n

\u201cI went to send him a DM that was like, \u2018Holy s\u2014, man, if you need anything, hit me up,’\u201d he revealed. \u201cAnd then I kept reading, and it was like, \u2018The son was apprehended at the scene.\u2019 And I was just like, \u2018This is crazy \u2026 I\u2019m not going to send anyone a DM today.’\u201d<\/p>\n

While Nick was ultimately arrested and\u00a0charged with the murders\u00a0of his parents, he was not apprehended at the scene.<\/p>\n

On Sunday, Dec. 14<\/a>, police discovered the bodies of Rob and Michele in the primary bedroom of their home in Brentwood, California. <\/p>\n

The Los Angeles County Medical Examiners\u2019 office later said that they died due to\u00a0multiple sharp force injuries.<\/p>\n

Nick was quickly named a person of interest in the investigation, and hours later, around 9:15 p.m. local time that same day, he was arrested.<\/p>\n

On Dec. 16, authorities charged Nick in the double homicide of his parents. He was hit with two counts of first-degree murder with a special circumstance of multiple murders.<\/p>\n

On Dec. 14, police discovered Rob and Michele\u2019s bodies in their home in Brentwood, California. @michelereiner\/Instagram<\/p>\n

\u201cHe also faces a special allegation that he personally used a dangerous and deadly weapon that being a knife,\u201d Los Angeles County District Attorney Nathan Hochman said during a press conference. \u201cThese charges carry a maximum sentence of life in prison without the possibility of parole or the death penalty.\u201d<\/p>\n

No decision has been made on whether prosecutors will seek the\u00a0death penalty.<\/p>\n

Nick made his first court appearance<\/a> in the case on Dec. 17, where his lawyer, famed defense attorney Alan Jackson, requested a continuance. <\/p>\n

He only spoke once: when the judge asked if he agreed to delay his arraignment, he said, \u201cYes, Your Honor.\u201d<\/p>\n
