STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. \u2014 Staten Island\u2019s three Community Boards will hold public meetings next week, with votes taking place on issues from liquor license applications and home improvement variances to the controversial Universal Daylighting Bill<\/a> and the modernizing of the City Map.<\/p>\n

The Universal Daylighting Bill has drawn a mix of praise and condemnation from Staten Islanders since its proposal. The legislation would remove parking spaces near intersections throughout New York City in an effort to improve safety for pedestrians and motorists by improving visibility for both.<\/p>\n

Opponents cite the cost of already minimal parking spaces on Staten Island, where residents rely on cars more than residents of other boroughs.<\/p>\n

Modernizing the City Map would digitalize the City Map, stripping the borough presidents of direct control.<\/p>\n

The following list of upcoming meetings was provided by representatives of Staten Island\u2019s three Community Boards.<\/p>\n

Community Board 1<\/p>\n

The New Brighton\/St. George\/Tompkinsville Committee will meet on Tuesday, Oct. 21, at 6:30 p.m. via Zoom.<\/a> <\/p>\n

Devon DeLucia of Bike New York will address those present.<\/p>\n

Also, liquor license renewals will be considered for the following St. George businesses:<\/p>\n

Community Board 2<\/p>\n

Community Board 2 will hold its regular monthly full board meeting on Tuesday, Oct. 21, at 7 p.m. in the Garden Room of the Hilton Garden Inn, Bloomfield. <\/p>\n

It will also be available via Zoom<\/a> and can be watched on YouTube.<\/a><\/p>\n

During the meeting, the Traffic and Transportation Committee will vote on the following items:<\/p>\n

NYC Department of Transportation\u2019s proposed Street Improvement Project on Mason Avenue.City Council Intro 1138, the controversial Universal Daylighting Bil<\/a>l, which proposes mandatory Daylighting at all intersections citywide, improving visibility at the cost of parking spaces throughout the city.<\/p>\n

The Land Use Committee will vote on the following items:<\/p>\n

City Planning Application, which seeks two zoning authorizations to facilitate the development of a two-story single-family home at\u00a0150 Flagg Place, on Todt Hill.Ballot Question #5: Modernizing the City Map<\/p>\n

Modernizing the City Map would consolidate the City Map into a single, centralized digital map under the Department of City Planning, stripping the Borough President\u2019s Office and its topographical unit of direct control.<\/p>\n

Community Board 3<\/p>\n

On Tuesday, Oct. 21, there will be a general board meeting and public hearing at 7 p.m.<\/p>\n

During the meeting, routine board business will be conducted, including project update and neighborhood concerns.<\/p>\n

It will take place in the CYO-MIV Community Center, 6541 Hylan Blvd., Pleasant Plains.<\/p>\n
