The 2026 state legislative session is shaping up to be a critical one as lawmakers juggle an election year, cuts to federal dollars and the need to pass legislation that will make everyday living more affordable for New Yorkers.<\/p>\n
Democratic state Assemblywoman Dana Levenberg said she believes the majority party will be able to preserve the most important programs, even with less money coming in from Washington, D.C.<\/p>\n
“My mission continues to build healthy communities, which are environmentally healthy, economically healthy, physically and mentally healthy all through the lens of equity,” she said.<\/p>\n
Republican state Sen. Rob Rolison said the minority party will continue to push for more affordable solutions.<\/p>\n
“These are real impacts,” he said. “For the state of New York, these types of federal cuts can be very, very challenging.”<\/p>\n
