The holiday travel season<\/a> is right around the corner, and the top two destinations people are flocking to for Thanksgiving might surprise you.<\/p>\n HotelPlanner<\/a>, a travel tech company and\u00a0hotel\u00a0booking platform, looked at hotel bookings in 2024 and 2025 for Thanksgiving weekend in the five major US cities: Las Vegas, New York, Chicago, Boston and San Francisco. <\/p>\n The experts found that many Americans are booking stays in Sin City and the Big Apple. A little turkey, a little stroll down the Vegas Strip or by the Empire State Building \u2014 sounds like fun.<\/p>\n Thanksgiving is one of the busiest travel weekends. ARTENS \u2013 stock.adobe.com<\/p>\n The Post reached out to HotelPlanner for comment.<\/p>\n Las Vegas managed to beat out NYC as the No. 1 travel destination for the annual holiday, as 56% of travelers are visiting there.<\/p>\n The platform also said that Vegas\u2019 popularity has grown 13% over the last year, while NYC\u2019s has grown 7% earning it the title of the second most popular travel destination for turkey day.<\/p>\n NYC came in second place, getting beaten out by Las Vegas. Tierney \u2013 stock.adobe.com<\/p>\n Chicago came in third, San Francisco in fourth place and Boston rounded out the top 5. <\/p>\n The news that Vegas is the top travel spot for Thanksgiving this year comes as a surprise, considering people are complaining about the Nevada city\u2019s sky-high prices<\/a>. <\/p>\n Vegas hotel prices are up 23% compared to 2024, with the\u00a0average room price per night being around $218.<\/p>\n Even a watered-down cocktail and a breakfast sandwich are hurting visitors\u2019 wallets.<\/p>\n Despite many travelers complaining about Sin City\u2019s high prices, it\u2019s still the top place people are booking this upcoming Thanksgiving holiday. engel.ac \u2013 stock.adobe.com<\/p>\n \u201cHaving a coffee that was $14 was crazy. The average cost of a hotel here\u00a0has\u00a0gone up 53%\u00a0since\u00a02024, according to the booking platform. <\/p>\n Something to keep in mind if you\u2019re planning on traveling to either of these major cities or elsewhere next month, airports might be extra chaotic due to the ongoing partial government shutdown<\/a>.<\/p>\n \u201cAirports will be flooded with flight cancellations and delays amid the busiest time to travel all year, and the list goes on and on,\u201d House Majority Whip\u00a0Tom Emmer\u00a0(R-Minn.) said during a press conference about the consequences of the shutdown.<\/p>\n \t\t\t\t\t\t
