STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. \u2014 New York City residents awoke to snow in some parts of the city and rain in others during Tuesday\u2019s wet morning commute.<\/p>\n

While the snow might be a pleasant sight for those dreaming of a white Christmas, this weather event is not anticipated to result in a lasting winter wonderland.<\/p>\n

As of 7 a.m. some very light snow has found its way to Staten Island, coating some front lawns and fields.<\/p>\n

\u201cObviously we are dealing with a little bit of a wintry start across the city and the metro this morning,\u201d Dominic Ramunni, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service<\/a>, told the Advance\/SILive.com Tuesday morning.<\/p>\n

\u201cGiven that temperatures are just above freezing, you know, we\u2019re not dealing with immediate, widespread, icy conditions on those untreated surfaces. That said, I do expect that there will be some slick spots developing on anything that\u2019s untreated as the snow continues to fall over the next couple of hours,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n

Although snow has fallen in some areas, others received rain. Eventually, Ramunni forecasts that the weather event will become all rain in the late morning or early afternoon.<\/p>\n

Staten Island is expected to receive a coating of snow. However, accumulation amounts could reach half an inch, Ramunni said.<\/p>\n

Areas north and west of Staten Island could receive up to an inch of snow.<\/p>\n

Once the snow transitions to rain, Ramunni anticipates a \u201cdreary rest of the day.\u201d<\/p>\n

As temperatures remain above freezing, light rain and patchy drizzle will continue before clearing out in the late afternoon or evening hours.<\/p>\n
