STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. \u2014 The Staten Island Quilters Guild delivered 25 handmade quilts to Richmond University Medical Center\u2019s Mother\/Baby Unit on Dec. 12, providing comfort for families welcoming newborns.<\/p>\n
The quilts will be given to families and babies receiving care at the hospital, where they have become treasured keepsakes for new parents.<\/p>\n
\u201cQuilting is a work of art, and we are so grateful to receive them from the guild,\u201d said Louise Steward, Mother\/Baby Unit nurse manager. \u201cThe parents have been so appreciative of these gifts that may even become family heirlooms.\u201d<\/p>\n
The guild, founded in 1977, has focused on supporting Staten Island charities through the art of quilt making. Members regularly visit nursing homes and local hospitals around Veterans Day to provide comfort for patients and veteran residents.<\/p>\n
Margaret Miller, a guild quilter, said members aim to help the community through charity shows and frequent donations.<\/p>\n
The organization\u2019s next show and raffle is scheduled for April 18, 2026.
