{"id":79624,"date":"2025-12-23T22:37:13","date_gmt":"2025-12-23T22:37:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ny\/79624\/"},"modified":"2025-12-23T22:37:13","modified_gmt":"2025-12-23T22:37:13","slug":"explosion-at-pennsylvania-nursing-home-ignites-blaze-traps-elderly-residents","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ny\/79624\/","title":{"rendered":"Explosion at Pennsylvania nursing home ignites blaze, traps elderly residents"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>An explosion at a Pennsylvania nursing home left multiple elderly residents and staff members trapped inside \u2014 and potentially dead \u2014 as firefighters rushed to battle the flames Tuesday afternoon, according to reports.<\/p>\n<p>The large blast erupted around 2:15 p.m. at Silver Lake Nursing Home in Bristol Township, about 21 miles northeast of Philadelphia, igniting a fire that tore through the building and prompted officials to declare a mass casualty incident, according to the Upper Masefield Township Police Department,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.wfmz.com\/news\/area\/southeastern-pa\/reported-explosion-fire-at-bucks-county-nursing-home\/article_3c2740f7-6a01-4585-94d2-07a024212c5a.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">WFMZ reported.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Video footage from local outlets showed a raging inferno and black smoke pouring from the Bucks County facility, with dozens of first responders working to douse the flames and scour for victims in the debris.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><img style=\"aspect-ratio:1.50146628;display:block\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" data-modal-image=\"38007002\" width=\"886\" height=\"590\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ny\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/AP_Nursing_Home-Explosion_60451-8bec2-0.jpg\" alt=\"A nursing home building, &quot;Bristol Health &amp; Rehab Center,&quot; damaged by an explosion with smoke rising and debris scattered.\" class=\"wp-image-38007002\"  \/>A large explosion rocked a Pennsylvania nursing home, leaving multiple residents trapped, and potentially dead.<\/p>\n<p>Police have not disclosed the cause of the explosion, the number of casualties or those injured.<\/p>\n<p>The apparent explosion caved in the roof of the senior home, with sections of the building completely leveled, according to photos\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/levittownnow.com\/2025\/12\/23\/nursing-home-explodes-multiple-injuries\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">shared by Levittown Now<\/a>, which reported the structure is at risk of collapsing.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019ve been briefed on the incident at Silver Lake Nursing Home in Bucks County, and my Administration is in contact with local officials and first responders on the ground,\u201d Pennsylvania Gov. Josh Shapiro\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/GovernorShapiro\/status\/2003571868805062736\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">posted on X.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe scene is still active, and folks nearby should follow the direction of local authorities. Please join Lori and me in praying for the Bristol community.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>At least three elderly residents were seen being pulled out on stretchers,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.poconorecord.com\/story\/news\/2025\/12\/23\/two-alarm-fire-reported-at-silver-lake-nursing-home-in-bristol\/87899107007\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">according to the Pocono Record<\/a>, which reported that a gas leak may have led to the blast.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Another six people were carried out to safety by a heroic bystander who was among the first to arrive at the scene.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe glass walled room was there, and it\u2019s all blown out now,\u201d Joe Westergon, who lives a few blocks from Silver Lake, told the Pocono Record.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think they were doing arts and crafts, They were just sitting there in their wheelchairs. I was taking them over to the curb and sitting them down. I was trying to keep them as calm as possible. They\u2019ll live but they were pretty tore up \u2014 some were bleeding.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>It remains unclear how many people were injured or died in the wreck.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Police have not yet disclosed the cause of the explosion.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMy team and I are in direct communication with local officials and emergency responders, and we are closely monitoring development as authorities work to secure the scene and care for those affected,\u201d US Rep.
