{"id":79830,"date":"2025-12-24T02:39:12","date_gmt":"2025-12-24T02:39:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ny\/79830\/"},"modified":"2025-12-24T02:39:12","modified_gmt":"2025-12-24T02:39:12","slug":"kingston-girls-break-school-record-at-new-york-city-meet-daily-freeman","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ny\/79830\/","title":{"rendered":"Kingston girls break school record at New York City meet \u2013 Daily Freeman"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>NEW YORK, N.Y. \u2014 The quartet of juniors Hazel Lewis, Charlotte McFarland and Maeve Paul and eighth grader Eden Hynes of Kingston High smashed the Tigers\u2019 school record in the girls\u2019 4\u00d71,500-meter relay by almost a minute at the Jim Mitchell Invitational at the Nike Track and Field Center at The Armory in New York City on Saturday, Dec. 20.<\/p>\n<p>The foursome ran a time of 20 minutes, 25.04 seconds, which was nearly a minute better than the school record of 21:24.42 established by Lewis, McFarland, Paul, and Madeline Sykes during last year\u2019s indoor track and field season. The Kingston quartet finished second in the highly competitive race.<\/p>\n<p>This was the first time that Hynes had competed on a relay of any kind. It was also only her second indoor track and field meet ever.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt feels really good,\u201d Hynes said after the meet. \u201cI did not think I would do that well, but I was proud of it and our team.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The quartet is currently ranked second in the United States in the event.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt is what we have worked so hard for, and a privilege to see how far we\u2019ve come,\u201d McFarland said.<\/p>\n<p>The majority of the Kingston indoor track and field team performed earlier in the day at the same venue in the Section 9 Holiday Classic.<\/p>\n<p>Marcode Campbell won the boys\u2019 55-meter dash in a time of 6.95 seconds.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt felt good, but I know I would have done better had I been allowed to wear spikes,\u201d Campbell said.<\/p>\n<p>In the season-opening Coach Saint Invitational on Friday, Dec. 12, at The Armory, Campbell achieved a state standard (6.69 seconds) in the sprint event, meaning if he can finish in the top three in upcoming qualifiers, he can go to states.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI expect to run personal bests in the 55, and my goal is to qualify for states in the event,\u201d Campbell said.<\/p>\n<p>Sophomore Kai\u2019Lynn Hagen finished second in the girls\u2019 55-meter run with a time of 8.01 seconds.
