STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — Notre Dame Academy’s Rachel Lee is back!

After a sophomore-year hiatus, Lee has been playing some tough, competitive tennis for the Gators. After a stellar season at second singles, Lee saved her best tennis for the Staten Island CHSAA individual tournament Saturday, stunning two-time defending champion Yuriko Perpetua (Staten Island Academy) in a dramatic 6-3,1-6, 10-3 victory at the College of Staten Island courts,

The win propels Lee into the Sunday finale where she will face St. Joseph Hill’s Emily Agushi at 9 a.m. at CSI. Agushi made the final with back-to-back shutouts of SIA’s Simone Feldman and NDA’a Ava Manzella.

In doubles action, SIA came up on point short of making the final an all-Tiger affair. The Tiger duo of Sarah Belushin and Kylie Gonzales were giving No. 2 seeds Ryan Burke and Michela Conforte of Hill all they could handle as they came back from a one-set deficit to force the master tiebreaker. After a back-and-forth tussle, Belushin and Gonzales led 9-8 and obtained match point. However, the Hill duo saved match point and won the next two to capture the match.

In alternate singles, Hill’s Francesca D’Agostino and Vera Korshunova secured a final berth, outlasting 18 other contestants. In the semifinals, D’Agostino bested teammate Emersen Palazzo 6-3 while Korshunova defeated teammate Maddy Mattock 6-3.

All finals are slated for Sunday at 9 a.m.
