{"id":81207,"date":"2025-12-26T00:47:06","date_gmt":"2025-12-26T00:47:06","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ny\/81207\/"},"modified":"2025-12-26T00:47:06","modified_gmt":"2025-12-26T00:47:06","slug":"nyc-familys-home-gutted-in-christmas-day-fire-that-spread-from-alley-trash-can","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ny\/81207\/","title":{"rendered":"NYC family&#8217;s home gutted in Christmas Day fire that spread from alley trash can"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A Queens family\u2019s home was gutted by a devastating Christmas Day fire that spread from a trash can in the alleyway and engulfed the side of their house.<\/p>\n<p>The FDNY responded to the three-alarm fire on 147th Street in Flushing around 3:15 p.m. Thursday, the department <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/FDNY\/status\/2004317983284560349?s=20\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">wrote in a post on X<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>A family\u2019s home in Flushing, Queens, was gutted in a fire on Christmas Day. FDNY<\/p>\n<p>A staggering 192 firefighters and EMS personnel rushed to the harrowing scene \u2014 all within four minutes, according to the FDNY.<\/p>\n<p>The right side of one home was swallowed up by flames, but the residents managed to escape unscathed, the FDNY said. Multiple windows were blown out, and what appeared to be a cushion lay flat on one roof.<\/p>\n<p>By the time the fire was put out around 4:30 p.m., the right side of the house was charred beyond recognition, and some deck boards had burned to the point where they shriveled up. <\/p>\n<p>The FDNY said that the fire likely spread from a trash can in the alleyway. Obtained by the NY Post<\/p>\n<p>A string of Christmas lights decorating the front of the residence was left untouched. A deflated lawn decoration of Santa Claus and a reindeer lay limp on the grass.<\/p>\n<p>FDNY Deputy Assistant Chief Joseph Schiralli said that the inferno likely \u201cstarted in a trash can in the alleyway and went up the siding\u201d before striking the house.<\/p>\n<p>No one was injured in the fire. Obtained by the NY Post<\/p>\n<p>One witness named Farhan said that she saw many of the \u201cscreaming\u201d family members narrowly escape from the destroyed house, including a sick man who \u201ccouldn\u2019t move\u201d very well.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEveryone was saved,\u201d she said. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey were crying a lot, the girls especially,\u201d she added.<\/p>\n<p>One witness said that there was \u201ca lot of smoke.\u201d FDNY<\/p>\n<p>Another fire destroyed a Chinese restaurant in Brooklyn Thursday afternoon. William Farrington<\/p>\n<p>She said that the residents in the neighboring home also dashed out once the fire spread.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt was a lot, a lot of smoke coming out,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>The owner of a neighboring home that sustained minor damage told The Post that their abode was spared through sheer luck.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s all about which way the wind is blowing. I feel sorry for that family, though.
