Although, for some, a sunny beach may sound better than bearing a winter storm.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"ISC4SV2NPVENHMQKTRPJ57OXIU\">A post-Christmas clipper will quickly sweep through New York and deliver a gift of plowable snow beginning Friday evening, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.accuweather.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.accuweather.com\">AccuWeather<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"CORZ5NYXSRHOHETBBU35XXIXMU\">A clipper storm, as defined by the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.weather.gov\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">National Weather Service<\/a>, is a fast-moving storm that drops into the U.S. over the Great Lakes from Alberta, Canada.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"PYLEFZOKIZHXBKSY562D2AVSCY\">For many areas, this clipper is expected to be a \u201cmess of a storm,\u201d Peyton Simmers, a meteorologist with AccuWeather, told the Advance\/SILive.com.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"6B66UCHJURB3DDYNO6ODV7MBTM\">As of Friday morning, Simmers believes New York City will receive between 3 and 6 inches of snowfall. This is less than the snowfall amount forecast by the weather service, which foresees accumulation between 7 and 8 inches.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"VDTNSGFBBBFZ5DSZIMUXSJCYP4\">Snow is expected to begin around 5 p.m.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"7MMW3HGYR5BPRP65B3T24DLYZU\">\u201cWe do expect a pretty good thump of snow to come in about after sunset, a little after 7 o\u2019clock &#8211; around 7 o\u2019clock &#8211; when the heaviest snow might get started in New York City,\u201d Simmers said. \u201cIt\u2019s not out of the question there could be some inch-per-hour snow rates within that band, so it could come down pretty quick and lay pretty quick in that 3-6 range that we have.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"2ORCAC6JBVG3ZKZSA2SJDN4DOE\">Simmers noted that it would not surprise him if the city experienced sleet pellets amid this winter system.<\/p>\n<p><img fetchpriority=\"low\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"NWS: Snow forecast for eastern NY on Dec. 26\" class=\"article__image-content\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ny\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/A57PUVN55JC6TF2SLHAQUJNTAA.jpeg\"  \/>This National Weather Service graphic shows forecast snowfall amounts in eastern New York from Friday, Dec. 26, through Saturday, Dec. 27, 2025.(National Weather Service)<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"5FGR6VPUMBFXVIID2G2YGUCXKA\">Generally, New York state is expected to receive between 1 and 6 inches of snow. However, AccuWeather predicts areas such as the Catskill Mountains, the northern suburbs of New York City and the northeastern corner of Pennsylvania could pick up between 6-12 inches of snow.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"MXJRJNM3FJHZDLWNTRD7ACM6VQ\">Areas like Syracuse, which typically takes on more snow than the city, will not be in the bullseye of this clipper, Simmers explained. In fact, the areas around Poughkeepsie look as though they will experience the worst of this snow.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"T5QFV63LCZCZXPI5AENIRTSR3M\">The weather service foresees Poughkeepsie receiving about 8.5 inches when all is said and done.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"PNVWAC3V2VB3LATAWW3Q3EHUXA\">Despite the Friday morning forecast, Simmers said that there is a \u201ctight gradient\u201d determining where the heaviest snowfall shall fall.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"WSAPGFNFNFFSDBXT3ORIIHDAXQ\">\u201cEven a shift of like 20 miles makes a big difference in who profits and who doesn\u2019t with the big snow given how tight the gradient is going to be with this storm,\u201d added Simmers.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"JWQGWAXMJND7HLTZB6J3JDZFKU\">Although Simmers does not foresee a major shift in the storm\u2019s track, he noted there could be a minor shift depending on the storm\u2019s ultimate path and the high pressure to the north over southeast Canada.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"VNOEXOB5F5B2XJEFI4J3YK22I4\">\u201cIf any of those are out of place by, you know, 20 to 30 miles that does make a difference, especially in New York City,\u201d Simmers explained. \u201cIf this storm goes 30 miles north that can put it (the city) more into the sleet, but if it stays, you know, 20 miles south, that can put it more into the bullseye of the snow.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"NFS7J7QVVZD3JFVKVFEY64UW7Y\">The storm should be over in the city by 8 a.m.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"7IIEJDYXIJG5XDEPDLI3G4O6PU\">\u201cUnfortunately for snow lovers, this snow is not going to be sticking around for too terribly long,\u201d said Simmers.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"B4BT7OWJDZDBDNATE747X6IICA\">Temperatures will reach into the upper 40s going into early next week and a storm on Sunday is expected to aid the melting process.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. \u2014 There\u2019s no place like home for the holidays.
