{"id":82135,"date":"2025-12-27T15:44:04","date_gmt":"2025-12-27T15:44:04","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ny\/82135\/"},"modified":"2025-12-27T15:44:04","modified_gmt":"2025-12-27T15:44:04","slug":"staten-island-hs-hoops-5-games-sia-stays-perfect-msit-csim-new-dorp-also-cop-holiday-break-wins-sw-loses","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ny\/82135\/","title":{"rendered":"Staten Island HS hoops: (5 games): SIA stays perfect; MSIT, CSIM, New Dorp also cop holiday break wins; SW loses"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"I6EKI4CVPZHM5BSQAVBB2ID4RY\">STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. &#8212; Staten Island Academy rolled to a big 72-41 thrashing of Port Richmond in the McKee\/Staten Island Tech Christmas Showcase Friday afternoon at the Seagulls\u2019 New Dorp gymnasium. <\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"S5KVIC72SJAAPP4Z3FR4XJEYOM\">With the win, the Tigers upped their mark to a perfect 9-0 on the season, while the Raiders dropped to 1-10.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"NY63YSKZEJDMJOENSQAQMTEEPA\">Also in the same event, New Dorp toppled Grady, 69-58; MSIT downed Eagle Academy SI, 74-62, while CSI\/McCown dumped Petrides, 59-34.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"YWG6NOYDWRHA5IPPEB63QHMPMU\">Saturday\u2019s matchups will feature MSIT-Petrides (noon); CSIM-SIA (1:45) followed by Robeson-Port Richmond (3:30).<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"LXRGLYZDJ5E3HHVOUBNH7QCFJI\">SIA 72, PR 41<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"RQFRIGSVSVF2LC3RPXGIEPXIRA\">Danny Nowak led the Tigers with 20 points, while Luke DeVito and Gabe Moschella added 16 and 15, respectively.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"Z7FFK5UGGVFUXO2OESX3OIUWFY\">A sluggish first quarter ended with the Raiders ahead, 9-6, as some cold shooting against Port Richmond\u2019s zone defense stalled the Tiger offense. SIA, however, would then use its defense in the second quarter to help fuel a 28-6 run to head into halftime with a comfortable 34-15 advantage.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"SCONC25VNJBWLK52WJIEGYW4BA\">\u201cIt\u2019s not like our first quarter defense was bad,\u201d SIA head coach Mike Mazella offered. \u201cBut sometimes our 1-3-1 can ignite our offense, and it did again today, as we were able to score a bunch of points in transition in the second quarter. We were able to get several deflections and steals from our zone, and we did a solid job on the boards.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"FPXCWO4KSBDIFCXOLIYEK23PEY\">Shiv Thakkar would help spearhead the Tigerss stingy defense with some strong play in the middle of their zone.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"FNICUBSID5CPZLVQJI5DDU53IQ\">\u201cShiv stepped up in the second quarter and did a great job playing the passing lanes and defending their post players when needed,\u201d Mazella would add.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"75ZB74AXCRHA5ODMNCMYP4BXOY\">DeVito would score 10 points in the second quarter, Mike Belkin added seven, and Ayden Howe chipped in with five in the period, as the Tigers made up for their slow start with conversions in the open court. <\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"X3AMWEPRZ5B6DE5G7YPOR76MPI\">In the second half, Nowak would be the beneficiary of SIA\u2019s transition game, as the senior guard tallied eight points in each of the final two stanzas. Moschella would toss in seven third quarter points, and John Elefterakis notched six in the final period. <\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"RPYSISM4AZGXVIIY5U72ERZO2U\">DyShawn Cartagena paced the Raiders with 16 points.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"WFG7U4GIKRA7DOWSUCQWXFYDKY\">New Dorp 69, Grady 58<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"4LVRZSKBZZDSHMVHYDHOGHALBM\">Senior Omari Onwe erupted for 29 points to lift the Centrals. <\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"ZMJFOCWSARF27KACUV7XCX4KVE\">Head coach Pat Hopkins\u2019 club also got solid efforts from Sergio Battista and Elijah Pizarro, who scored 15 and 14 points, respectively.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"HFLY2GV2KRES5BQKMNMIW57F54\">The Central led throughout and got three three-pointers from Onwe and another pair from Pizarro in the win. They also shot it well from the stripe, converting 13 of 16 freebies.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"HVC3NG3QV5G7ZEMUW6PN3INS4Y\">Joshua Carter chipped in with six for the winners, who moved to 8-4 on the season.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"6C3YJTRKSRDE5DL6BEJGDD6I5E\">MSIT 74, Eagle Academy SI 62<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"HLPD4AFECNGGXCYWSGULRAJFC4\">The host club picked up its fourth win in a row spearheaded by a 25-8 second-period jaunt that put them in control.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"HCZP4H3ISVAE7BFOBWAMWZWWII\">Senior guard Nizayah Jordan (16 points) banged down three triples in the period, while Ray Guerriero provided a spark off the bench with seven of his 12 markers in the stanza to spur the victory.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"PSDM57LL5REWPMPZFTD7OQE3YQ\">Dalton Cherubin and William Slocum split 24 for coach Charlie Donohue\u2019s squad which moved to 6-5 on the campaign.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"F4GI5AJ76NEFTJ6H3BYU5HG7FA\">Eagle jumped out to a hot start and led 25-20 after one on the back of Juneek Daniels\u2019 (game-high 18 points) eight points in the period. Justin Webley knocked down three three-pointers in the period as well for Eagle.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"23E5CREMTBBPPH44PCZACXNHSY\">Armani Perez finished with 16 for the Stapleton school (5-9 overall), while Javon Jordan chipped in with nine.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"LQWXJQCEVFCNDFSTDU4FVNQLOA\">CSIM 59, Petrides 39<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"VJRQRSTKWBBRVOZ3VVDKQUHZHI\">The Dragons got a complete-team effort as nine players entered the scoring column, highlighted by Xavier Farley\u2019s 18 points. Patrick Tucker was also in double-figures with 13, while Danny O\u2019Connor added eight for the 5-6 winners.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"RHJLJ5KWEJGWJGFP5YFCAYX7IA\">Jaiden Brown pumped in a game-best 19 for the Panthers, who slipped to 2-8 on the season.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"6SUK3ZICUFDNBODMGDSK7UVJM4\">CSIM registered just one field goal in the opening period of play, but still led 9-3 after the first eight minutes.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"M573TYU6DRFRDOVMEJVTQ4X2RE\">O\u2019Connor\u2019s seven markers paved the way for a big second quarter and the Dragons hit the locker room with a comfortable 28-11 lead and never looked back.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"G4BZCLS3LBGSBB5VS7ZUCIISJY\">Farley corraled 16 boards in the win, while O\u2019Connor dished off seven helper\u2019s for head coach Danny Lee\u2019s team.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"VV2KELY37NCTPIS4YZUKXYJM7Y\">Oakdale 64, Susan Wagner 55<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"HIIZ6A4LLBE4NE7MRUF4GGHSZA\">SALISBURY, Md. &#8212; The Falcons fought the good fight, but fell in the first round at the Governor\u2019s Challenge.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"Z6EIES3TFZCAZLATPUU6DN6ORA\">Clevi Hoxha (four triples) led Danny Lanigan\u2019s squad with 18 points, while Darin Humes-James added 13.
