STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. \u2014 After six months away from competition, Willowbrook boxer Arjan Iseni<\/a> is preparing to step back into the ring, ready to showcase his skills once again next month at Brooklyn\u2019s Barclays Center. <\/p>\n

The Staten Islander has been boxing for more than 15 years, first putting on gloves at just 7 years old. What began as following in the footsteps of his father, Argjent Iseni, quickly grew into a lifelong passion.<\/p>\n

\u201cMy dad used to box when he was younger,\u201d said Iseni. \u201cWhen I got old enough, he put me into the sport, and the rest was history. I fell in love.\u201d <\/p>\n

Success story<\/p>\n

Before turning professional, Iseni established himself as one of the region\u2019s top young fighters. A five-time USA Boxing National Champion <\/a>and a 13-time New York State Boxing Champion, his accomplishments helped solidify his reputation as a standout prospect.<\/p>\n

Iseni captured his first national championship in 2019 as a youth boxer in the light heavyweight division. He followed that success with another national title in 2021, earning elite status in USA Boxing\u2019s open division, which includes the highest level of amateur fighters, typically ages 18 to 40.<\/p>\n

His continued success led to selection for Team USA, where he represented the United States from 2020 through 2022. During that time, Iseni competed internationally and earned a silver medal at the Continental Championships in April 2022, further cementing his credentials as an elite amateur boxer.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt was a great experience,\u201d said Iseni. \u201cI got to represent my country on the biggest stages in amateur boxing.\u201d <\/p>\n

Iseni officially turned professional in September 2024, and has been pro for over a year. Since then, he has remained undefeated, building a 4-0 record with four knockouts. His most recent bout came six months ago at New Jersey\u2019s Prudential Center, where he secured a second-round knockout against Kaine Tomlinson Jr., according to BoxRec.com<\/a>. <\/p>\n

\u201cIt was good,\u201d said Iseni. \u201cI executed the game plan correctly, and that led me to getting the finish.\u201d<\/p>\n

The upcoming Jan. 10 matchup marks Iseni\u2019s first fight since that win and the longest break of his career. While the gap has been unusual, the boxer said his mindset has remained the same. <\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019ve been doing this all my life, since I could remember,\u201d he said. \u201cIt\u2019s honestly just another fight for me.\u201d <\/p>\n

Preparing for return <\/p>\n

Iseni has spent the last few months in training camp, patiently waiting for his next opportunity. His day-to-day routine includes sharpening his boxing technique through sparring and bag work in the mornings, followed by cardio and strength training at night.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s fun being in fight camp,\u201d said Iseni. \u201cI\u2019m happy to be back in the gym getting ready for a fight.\u201d <\/p>\n

Iseni will compete in a six-round bout in the light heavyweight division at 175 pounds against Mario Bedolla Orozco<\/a>. Regardless of the opponent, Iseni said his preparation and focus remain the same. <\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m happy to be getting back in the ring and to showcase my skills again,\u201d stated Iseni. <\/p>\n

The fight also carries added meaning for the boxer, who has strong ties to Staten Island\u2019s Albanian community. Iseni expressed gratitude for the continued support he receives from fans, sponsors, family and friends. <\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m very thankful for everyone who comes out, supports me, buys tickets, and sponsors me,\u201d stated Iseni. \u201cI really appreciate it. It means a lot to me and helps me along my journey.\u201d <\/p>\n

That support, he said, has been a constant source of motivation as he continues to build his professional career.<\/p>\n

\u201cI hope that I can bring all my Albanian people and the community together so we can all celebrate this big win on Jan. 10,\u201d added Iseni. <\/p>\n
