Anthony Rendon\u2019s nightmarish tenure in Anaheim is over.<\/p>\n
The oft-injured third baseman has reached an agreement with the Angels to restructure his contract, ending his time with the team after six seasons, The Post\u2019s Jon Heyman confirmed<\/a>.<\/p>\n The Athletic first reported<\/a> the news.<\/p>\n Rendon\u2019s $38 million salary for 2026 will be deferred for three to five years, though the exact timetable remains unclear, per the report.<\/p>\n Anthony Rendon\u2019s Angels tenure is over after six seasons. AP<\/p>\n Late last month, reports suggested the sides were exploring a resolution<\/a> \u2014 potentially involving Rendon retiring \u2014 but instead, he will remain under contract and technically occupy a spot on the Angels\u2019 roster, according to the Orange County Register<\/a>. The Athletic added that Rendon will likely be placed on the 60-day injured list to start 2026.<\/p>\n Rendon, 35, has been nothing short of a disaster since signing a seven-year, $245 million deal after the 2019 season.<\/p>\n After spending his first seven seasons with the Nationals, Rendon joined the Angels fresh off his first All-Star appearance and a World Series title.<\/p>\n He enjoyed a solid COVID-shortened 2020, slashing .286\/.418\/.497 with nine homers and 31 RBIs across 52 games \u2014 but it was all downhill from there.<\/p>\n Between 2021-24, Rendon never appeared in more than 58 games while dealing with a laundry list of injuries, including to his groin, wrist, hamstrings, leg and oblique.<\/p>\n After joining the Angels fresh off a strong 2019 season, a spate of injuries kept Rendon off the field for most of his time with the organization. AP<\/p>\n He missed the entire 2025 season after undergoing surgery on his hip.<\/p>\n Rendon\u2019s Angels stint also included multiple controversies, from taking a swing at an Athletics fan<\/a> in March 2023, claiming he doesn\u2019t speak English<\/a> to avoid reporters and announcing he was injured before the Angels themselves were aware<\/a>.<\/p>\n Rendon drew fresh criticism before the 2024 season when he admitted baseball has \u201cnever been a top priority<\/a>.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cIt\u2019s never been a top priority for me,\u201d Rendon said. \u201cThis is a job. I do this to make a living. My faith, my family come before this job.<\/p>\n \u201cSo if those things come before it, I\u2019m leaving.\u201d<\/p>\n The comments drew criticism around the league, including from his former Nationals teammate Jonathan Papelbon, who claimed Rendon \u201cjust doesn\u2019t give a s\u2013t.<\/a>\u201d<\/p>\n Rendon missed the entire 2025 season due to hip surgery. He\u2019s got more raw talent than the three of us combined, but at the end of the day, he just doesn\u2019t give a s\u2013t.\u201d<\/p>\n The Angels wasted no time utilizing their newfound financial relief, agreeing to a one-year, $5 million pact with former two-time All-Star reliever Kirby Yates on Tuesday, per Heyman<\/a>.<\/p>\n The ex-Yankees reliever is the latest addition in a low-risk, high-reward offseason for the Halos.<\/p>\n Los Angeles has added former All-Stars Jordan Romano, Alek Manoah and Drew Pomeranz in free agency.<\/p>\n
