As New Year’s Eve festivities kick off, law enforcement across New York State is stepping up patrols to ensure safety on the roads. The “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” campaign, funded by the Governor\u2019s Traffic Safety Committee, will run through New Year’s Day (January 1, 2026). This initiative aims to crack down on impaired driving, speeding, and other traffic violations during the holiday season.<\/p>\n

Governor Kathy Hochul emphasized the state’s zero-tolerance policy for impaired driving, stating<\/a>, “Anyone making the decision to place themselves or other drivers in danger this holiday season will be ticketed or face criminal charges.” In addition to targeting impaired drivers, officers will monitor for speeding, distracted driving, and violations of the “Move Over Law,” which requires caution when passing stopped vehicles.<\/p>\n

New York State Police Superintendent Steven G. James<\/a> encouraged motorists to prioritize safe driving practices. He warned that driving under the influence endangers everyone on the road. Last year’s enforcement efforts resulted in over 129,000 tickets, including 4,264 arrests for impaired driving.<\/p>\n

Drivers are urged to plan for a sober ride home and avoid distractions. The New York State STOP-DWI Foundation’s “Have a Plan” mobile app is available to help locate taxis or rideshare services.
