Revelers in the Big Apple were set to brave the coldest temperatures at a New Year\u2019s Eve ball drop since 2017 \u2014 and even a potential dousing of snow, according to forecasts.<\/p>\n
But several hours later, that snowy dusting could turn into a potential squall, leaving up to an inch on the ground, experts said.<\/p>\n

The temperature is expected to be about 30 degrees as the ball drops in Times Square at the stroke of midnight, although meteorologists said it will feel more like it\u2019s in the 20s or even teens.<\/p>\n
\u201cIf the weather pans out as forecast, the midnight temperature on New Year\u2019s Eve at Times Square will be the coldest since the cusp of 2017 and 2018, when it was a frigid 9 degrees,\u201d AccuWeather meteorologist Jesse Ferrell said.<\/p>\n
The bone-chilling weather could be met with a light touch of snow overnight into early Thursday.<\/p>\n
Flurries could hit the city starting sometime after 10 p.m. into midnight, although the scene will look more picturesque than something out of a travel nightmare,\u00a0AccuWeather senior meteorologist Tyler Roys told The Post.<\/p>\n
But a forecasted snow squall is expected to then descend on the Big Apple between 4 a.m. and 7 a.m., leaving behind a coating of possibly up to an inch of snow, Roys said.<\/p>\n

If any snow of consequence hits the city as the clock hits midnight into 2026, it would be the first time since 2009, according to AccuWeather.<\/p>\n
The rest of the tristate area will face similar weather compared to the city, Roys noted.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Tourists who landed in the Frozen Apple for Wednesday night\u2019s thrill were ready for the chill with layers of clothes as they waited to get into Times Square.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe got here at 10 a.m. but I\u2019m wearing five layers, mostly cashmere, so we\u2019re going to make it, I hope. I hope we\u2019re going to make it,\u201d said Honey Soltani,\u00a038, who traveled from Texas with her husband.<\/p>\n
Beau Reschke, 36,\u00a0came with his fianc\u00e9e from Australia, where it\u2019s currently summer, on Tuesday night to see the ball drop.<\/p>\n
\u201cIf I could talk to other Aussies, I would tell them layer up! We\u2019re taking turns to go into a shop and warm up for a few moments and trying to move as much as possible,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
\u201cAnd there are people walking up and down the line saying \u2018hand warmers $10\u2019 and people selling food out of coolers, but it is really cold.\u201d<\/p>\n
Parts of upstate New York near Buffalo were facing harsher blasts from Old Man Winter. Snow, including some heavy at times, was falling in the region Wednesday after already dealing with a foot or more of snow earlier this week.<\/p>\n
Strong lake-effect snow and another storm could drop 12-24 inches of accumulation around the Great Lakes area with locally higher amounts upstate, according to AccuWeather.<\/p>\n
