It\u2019s New Year\u2019s Day, and time to dive into a new year.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"FMVWDVAXENFCBKO4R73GYWOGOY\">You might be able to get some shopping done, as the Staten Island Mall in New Springville will be open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Other retailers often stay open to accommodate shoppers who have the day off.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"562IXGRNTNB4XIQJ3R34MIEI64\">Not much else is open, however, since the day is a federal holiday.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"KWJUMWC3ABAR3OU2JWOGJIODZQ\">Below is a look at what is open and closed on Thursday, Jan. 1, 2026, in observance of New Year\u2019s Day<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"6XG62RYEFJF3NKBFK3GE6U2RCQ\">Staten Island Advance Will not publish.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"THC5CQ2POFDQPICGPQEW4MKYFY\">Banks: Closed<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"FVBKML7RLBCIHLZLZB7W5QSELU\">Financial Markets: Closed<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"UV23SZOGY5ATZOSWJCMZYS47KA\">Government Offices: Closed<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"ZQSXO4AK5RG4DBPJL3JSHNOVOQ\">Courts: Closed<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"XEVDIKTSABDAFAW7ZJA7R2RSXA\">U.S. Post Offices: Closed<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"YMI7KFYNKZGFPGX7AAZKRSPYKA\">Sanitation No garbage collection, no recycling, no organics collection and no street cleaning today. Residents who normally receive Thursday trash, recycling or curbside compost collection may place their material out at curbside Thursday evening for collection beginning Friday, Dec. 26, according to the city Sanitation Department website.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"6DNKNC4M2JG33CZHCBXVBXPRCY\">Residents should expect collection delays, as is common after holidays.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"AN3TD2MKMREB7NS7TI5DW3XHPM\">For questions about Sanitation services and holiday schedules, contact 311 or visit <a href=\"https:\/\/nyc.gov\/sanitation\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">nyc.gov\/sanitation<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"47JFUNHSZZGH5G4LEK4YING7LU\">City Parking: Parking meters are not in effect.
