STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. \u2014 Well, 2025 has come to a close. It\u2019s New Year\u2019s Day, and time to dive into a new year.<\/p>\n

You might be able to get some shopping done, as the Staten Island Mall in New Springville will be open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Other retailers often stay open to accommodate shoppers who have the day off.<\/p>\n

Not much else is open, however, since the day is a federal holiday.<\/p>\n

Below is a look at what is open and closed on Thursday, Jan. 1, 2026, in observance of New Year\u2019s Day<\/p>\n

Staten Island Advance Will not publish.<\/p>\n

Banks: Closed<\/p>\n

Financial Markets: Closed<\/p>\n

Government Offices: Closed<\/p>\n

Courts: Closed<\/p>\n

U.S. Post Offices: Closed<\/p>\n

Sanitation No garbage collection, no recycling, no organics collection and no street cleaning today. Residents who normally receive Thursday trash, recycling or curbside compost collection may place their material out at curbside Thursday evening for collection beginning Friday, Dec. 26, according to the city Sanitation Department website.<\/p>\n

Residents should expect collection delays, as is common after holidays.<\/p>\n

City Parking: Parking meters are not in effect. Alternate side rules are suspended. Stopping, standing and parking are permitted, except in areas where stopping, standing and parking rules are in effect seven days a week (e.g., \u201cNo Standing Anytime\u201d).<\/p>\n

Staten Island Ferry: Holiday schedule.
