I\u2019m here to see my friend Rufus! We\u2019ve been friends for about 18 years. He\u2019s on my album, and we sing a duet on a song he wrote for my record, which I brought tonight on vinyl to give to him. But he doesn\u2019t know it yet.<\/p>\n
Can you tell me about your outfit?
I don\u2019t mean to be a name-dropper, but I\u2019m friends with Parker Posey. I was at her house upstate visiting and she goes, \u201cI got something for you. Come upstairs.\u201d And so I ran upstairs. We\u2019re both southern girls and we\u2019re both just a couple years apart and we\u2019re both Scorpios, so she\u2019s like my sis. She throws this caftan at me and goes, \u201cThis is for you. It\u2019s a red-carpet look.\u201d And I\u2019m like, \u201cWell, thank you, Ms. Pose, I\u2019ll take it.\u201d And so I put it on and then she goes, \u201cNo, no, no. It needs something.\u201d And she\u2019s giving me accessories and I\u2019m like, Golly! So now what am I going to give her? My love and affection? But she\u2019s a very generous friend.<\/p>\n

What goes on in the downtime between your performances?<\/p>\n
It\u2019s quite an undertaking to do five shows in a row, so I need to rest my voice. For the first three days, I didn\u2019t leave the hotel, just ordered room service and watched TV and ate jelly beans and M&M\u2019s. But I ventured out today and went to the Frick, which was incredible.<\/p>\n

We moved here from Michigan mainly for work. My wife was a captain for the Detroit Lions cheer team, and she finished out her career. Then we had kids, and I genuinely believe raising kids in the city is awesome. They\u2019re exposed to different elements and the highest of highs to the lowest of lows.<\/p>\n

Yes! I had my daughter in May, and my mom was staying at the Carlyle for a month. I\u2019d been cooped up for two weeks, and at week three we were like, \u201cLet\u2019s go to Caf\u00e9 Carlyle to see a show.\u201d Now that I\u2019m looking back at it, that\u2019s actually insane. My daughter slept the entire show and woke up so bright-eyed and bushy while we were two martinis deep.<\/p>\n
