Scores of Zohran Mamdani fans who braved freezing temperatures<\/a> to celebrate the new mayor as he was publicly sworn into office Thursday were left disappointed by the bash the socialist pol\u00a0had promised.<\/p>\n Around 10,000 supporters stood outside City Hall during the event\u00a0\u2014 billed as an \u201cInauguration for a New Era Block Party\u201d by Mamdani\u2019s staff \u2014\u00a0crammed into several barricaded pens\u00a0without access to bathrooms or any food concession stands.<\/p>\n Mamdani supporters watching the mayor speak at the inaugural \u201cblock party\u201d at City Hall. REUTERS\/Jeenah Moon<\/p>\n \u201cIt\u2019s definitely not a block party,\u201d said\u00a0Danny Mahabir, 30,\u00a0an Astoria resident who told The Post he\u2019d been expecting a mix of food and music at the\u00a0New Year\u2019s Day festivities.<\/p>\n Instead, Mahabir, who\u00a0wore three layers of clothes to stay warm,\u00a0said he and others are \u201cjust stuck behind the barricades watching it on TV.\u201d<\/p>\n Around 10,000 supporters stood outside City Hall during the event, which the Mamdani administration labeled a \u201cblock party.\u201d Matthew McDermott<\/p>\n Revelers observed\u00a0speakers including New York Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders on a series of big TV screens set up along Broadway, as 4,000 invited guests sat more comfortably in City Hall\u2019s outdoor plaza to witness Mamdani take the oath of office.<\/p>\n While Mamdani fans were stil<\/a>l excited for the new administration to get underway, they weren\u2019t impressed by the supposed \u201cblock party\u201d on a frigid day when temperatures dropped to the mid-20 degrees.<\/p>\n \u201cIt\u2019s not exactly what I was expecting,\u201d said Brooklyn resident Shane Turner, 30. \u201cI was expecting food and music.\u201d<\/p>\n Many supporters were not impressed with the event, pointing out its lack of festivities.
