{"id":87131,"date":"2026-01-02T07:08:13","date_gmt":"2026-01-02T07:08:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ny\/87131\/"},"modified":"2026-01-02T07:08:13","modified_gmt":"2026-01-02T07:08:13","slug":"mayor-zohran-mamdani-issues-sweeping-executive-order-that-wipes-out-most-eos-issued-by-adams-after-indictment","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ny\/87131\/","title":{"rendered":"Mayor Zohran Mamdani issues sweeping executive order that wipes out most EOs issued by Adams after indictment"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2026\/01\/01\/us-news\/zohran-mamdani-defiantly-vows-to-stick-to-socialist-agenda-in-fiery-inauguration-speech\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Democratic socialist Mayor Zohran Mamdani<\/a> wasted no time trying to erase his predecessor\u2019s legacy \u2014 signing a sweeping executive order just hours after taking office that wipes out most of the orders issued by Eric Adams following his indictment.<\/p>\n<p>The move, one of five executive orders the 34-year-old pol signed in Brooklyn Thursday, will revoke all orders issued by Adams after Sept. 26, 2024 \u2014 the same day he was <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2024\/09\/26\/us-news\/read-eric-adams-full-indictment-as-hizzoner-becomes-first-sitting-nyc-mayor-to-be-charged-by-grand-jury\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">slapped with federal corruption charges <\/a>\u2014 to ensure a \u201cfresh start\u201d for his incoming administration.<\/p>\n<p>But he vowed to reissue certain Adams-era orders from that period of time, including one that would maintain the <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2025\/05\/13\/us-news\/mayor-adams-takes-page-out-of-trumps-playbook-launches-task-force-to-fight-antisemitism\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Office to Combat Antisemitism.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Mayor Zohran Mamdani signing an executive order in Brooklyn on Jan. 1, 2026. And in order to fulfill that hope, we have to reckon with why so many New Yorkers have turned away from politics over the last few months, the last few years, the last few decades,\u201d Mamdani said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAnd that was a date that marked the moment when many New Yorkers decided that politics had nothing for them, but more of the same.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Adams made history when he became the first sitting Big Apple mayor to be indicted. He was accused of allegedly taking Turkish government funds to greenlight a Turkish consulate in Manhattan.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2026\/01\/01\/us-news\/zohran-mamdani-nyc-mayoral-inauguration-live-updates\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Follow The Post\u2019s live coverage of New York Mayor Zohran Mamdani\u2019s inauguration<\/a><\/p>\n<p>The\u00a0historic\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2025\/04\/02\/us-news\/nyc-mayor-eric-adams-historic-corruption-case-dismissed-as-judge-sides-with-trump-doj\/\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\" target=\"_blank\">federal corruption case against Adams was dropped<\/a>\u00a0by President Trump\u2019s Department of Justice rather than the White House issuing a pardon.<\/p>\n<p>The mayor\u2019s team said some orders will be reinstated if the new administration deems them essential to \u201cdelivering continued service, excellence, and value-driven\u201d leadership.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Mamdani signed orders aimed at protecting tenants. Robert Mecea<\/p>\n<p>The full list of recycled orders was not immediately available.<\/p>\n<p>Mamdani also signed a flurry of orders that fulfill his promise to take on Big Apple landlords, including revitalizing the Mayor\u2019s Office to Protect Tenants and establishing two new task forces aimed at speeding up housing construction on city-owned land and boosting supply.<\/p>\n<p>The Post\u2019s latest on NYC Mayor Zohran Mamdani\u2019s inauguration day celebration:<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFirst, we will need to revive the Mayor\u2019s Office to Protect Tenants,\u201d the mayor boasted.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey will no compromise on housing quality. if your landlord does not responsibly steward your home, city government will step in.
