STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. \u2014 Traveling around New York City is now more expensive, as both MTA and Port Authority fare and toll increases went into effect Sunday morning<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Starting Sunday, Jan. 4, The Metropolitan Transportation Authority increased tolls at its crossings \u2014 like the Verrazzano-Narrows Bridge, Hugh L. Carey Tunnel and Robert F. Kennedy Bridge \u2014 from $6.94 to $7.46.<\/p>\n

The MTA has also said that resident discount programs, like the Staten Island Resident Program, would still apply to these new tolls.<\/p>\n

Also starting Sunday, the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey increased tolls<\/a> at crossings like the Outerbridge, Goethals Bridge and Bayonne Bridge between 4% and 5%.<\/p>\n

Off-peak tolls at crossings like the Outerbridge, Goethals Bridge and Bayonne Bridge increased from $14.06 to $14.79. Peak hour tolls jump from $16.06 to $16.79.<\/p>\n

Borough residents enrolled in the Staten Island Bridges Plan \u2014 which offers a 50% discount on the peak E-ZPass toll \u2014 will now pay $8.40 after making three trips in a single month. <\/p>\n

This is up from the $8.03 that Staten Islanders enrolled in the saving plan paid through 2025. Finally, Tolls by Mail users will see an increase in 2026 from $22.38 to $23.30.<\/p>\n

Similarly, new tolls from Port Authority of New York and New Jersey<\/a> went into effect Sunday morning.<\/p>\n

Fare increase<\/p>\n

The toll increases coincided with the MTA raising public transit fares in New York City<\/a> on Sunday.<\/p>\n

Buses and subways now cost $3 as opposed to $2.90. On express buses, the current $7 base fare became $7.25 per trip.<\/p>\n
