MANHATTAN (KSNT<\/a>) \u2013 The Kansas Bureau of Investigation is looking into an officer-involved shooting that left a Manhattan man in critical condition on Saturday afternoon.<\/p>\n

Officials say the incident began shortly after 3 p.m. on Jan. 3, when two Pottawatomie County sheriff\u2019s deputies responded to a homeowner\u2019s report of gunfire damaging a shed and garage. While taking the report, deputies heard additional shots and traced them to a residence at 8655 Josie Lane.<\/p>\n

Deputies identified themselves and issued commands before Brian J. Lovgren, 38, of Manhattan, emerged from the home armed with a handgun, according to preliminary findings. One deputy fired multiple times, hitting Lovgren.<\/p>\n

Life-saving measures were performed at the scene, and Lovgren was taken to a Kansas City hospital, where he underwent surgery and remains in critical condition. No deputies were injured.<\/p>\n

The KBI says its investigation will determine the events leading up to the shooting. Findings will be presented to the Pottawatomie County Attorney for review.<\/p>\n

The investigation is ongoing.<\/p>\n
