Another distributor is recalling bags of frozen shrimp because of possible radioactive contamination, including some sold in New York, according to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Direct Source Seafood is voluntarily recalling approximately 83,800 bags of frozen raw shrimp because they have been prepared, packed, or held under insanitary conditions whereby they may have become contaminated with cesium-137.<\/p>\n

The recalled shellfish were sold in one pound bags of easy peel, shell-on raw shrimp under Price Chopper\u2019s Market 32 brand in states like New York, Pennsylvania, Massachusetts and Connecticut. <\/p>\n

The shrimp were also sold under the Waterfront Bistro brand in Albertson\u2019s, Jewel-Osco and Safeway supermarkets, primarily in the western United States, according to the recall announcement.<\/p>\n

The affected products have \u201cBest By\u201d dates between April 22 and April 27, 2027.<\/p>\n

No illnesses have been reported to date linked to these recalls.<\/p>\n

Like earlier shrimp recalls<\/a>, these products were manufactured by PT. Bahari Makmur Sejati \u2014doing business as BMS Foods \u2014 of Indonesia, according to the FDA.<\/p>\n

The initial recall<\/a> involved frozen raw shrimp under the Great Value brand sold at Walmart, distributed by Beaver Street Fisheries, LLC. The recall involved a limited quantity of Great Value Frozen Raw Shrimp EZ-Peel & Deveined Tail-On 21-25 per lb.<\/p>\n

Southwind Foods, LLC<\/a> also recalled a limited quantity of frozen shrimp. The bagged, frozen shrimp product was distributed from July 17 through Aug. 8, 2025 to retailers, distributors, and wholesalers in the following states: Alabama, Arizona, California, Massachusetts, Minnesota, Pennsylvania, Utah, Virginia and Washington.<\/p>\n

AquaStar (USA) Corp recalled approximately 18,000 bags<\/a> (net wt. 2 pounds) of Kroger Mercado Cooked Medium Peeled Tail-Off Shrimp. The product was sold at Baker\u2019s, Gerbes, Jay C, Kroger, Mariano\u2019s, Metro Market, Pay Less Supermarkets, and Pick \u2018n Save across multiple states.<\/p>\n

Additionally, Aquastar (USA) recalled cocktail shrimp 6 oz. sold at Walmart stores<\/a> in several states from July 31 through Aug. 16. The product was sold in refrigerated condition and has a 12-day shelf life and with various Best if Use By dates.<\/p>\n

Cesium-137 is a radioisotope of cesium. Traces of it are widespread and can be present in the environment at background levels, and at higher levels in water or foods grown, raised, or produced in areas with environmental contamination.<\/p>\n

The primary health effect of concern following longer term, repeated low dose exposure (e.g., through consumption of contaminated food or water over time) is an elevated risk of cancer.<\/p>\n

If you purchased any impacted frozen shrimp, throw it away or return the shrimp to the place of purchase for a full refund.
