STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. \u2014 There were three reported vehicle thefts during the week of Dec. 22 through Dec. 28, according to NYPD data.<\/p>\n

Despite the number, the amount of automobile thefts reported in the borough this year has gone down. <\/p>\n

Car thefts reported through Dec. 28 dropped 28% (239 vs. 333) when compared to the same period in 2024, according to the NYPD\u2019s latest CompStat figures. <\/p>\n

Car thefts in the borough haven\u2019t been this low since 2022.<\/p>\n

The database indicates that three cars were stolen on Staten Island between Dec. 22 and Dec. 28, the most recent week for which statistics are available.<\/p>\n

Here\u2019s a look at those incidents:<\/p>\n

On Dec. 22, at 9 p.m., a car theft was reported on Bay and Congress streets in Stapleton.On Dec. 25, at 5 a.m., a car theft was reported at Anderson Street and Clifton Avenue in Rosebank.On Dec. 27, at 3 a.m., a car theft was reported on Rockland Avenue and Forest Hill Road in New Springville.<\/p>\n

Beginning in late Summer 2023, the NYPD enacted a tactical shift aimed at curbing car thefts.
