Newly elected mayor of New York City Zohran Mamdani seems to be getting a running start in his campaign promises. Reportedly, Mamdani says the city will be holding \u201cRental Ripoff\u201d hearings with tenants across the five boroughs and taking action against \u201cunconscionable\u201d business practices in the coming months.<\/p>\n

Today\u2019s executive order is the first step towards giving New Yorkers a voice in addressing the housing crisis that is pricing them out of our city,\u201d Mamdani said during a news conference<\/a> at 1520 Sedgwick Ave. in the Bronx.<\/p>\n Reportedly, Mamdani signed an executive order Sunday directing his new Office of Mass Engagement<\/a> and other city agencies to hold the hearings within his first 100 days in office.<\/p>\n Zohran Mamdani\u2019s mayoral campaign has made housing affordability and tenant protections a central focus. One of his key promises is to freeze rent increases on New York City\u2019s rent-stabilized apartments, protecting roughly two million tenants.
