A Brooklyn man driving early Monday morning\u00a0on the Heckscher State Parkway in East Islip\u00a0died in a single-vehicle crash, the New York State Police said.<\/p>\n
The driver was identified as\u00a0Muhammad Qamar, 22, said state police spokesperson\u00a0Trooper Brittany Burton. Troopers responded about 5:43 a.m. to the crash, which occurred in the eastbound lanes near the roadway\u2019s name change to Southern State Parkway, Burton said.<\/p>\n
Qamar’s vehicle struck several trees along the parkway before overturning.\u00a0Qamar was pronounced dead at the scene,\u00a0Burton said.<\/p>\n
A woman who identified herself over the phone as a relative of Qamar’s said the family did not want to comment on his death when reached by Newsday late Monday.<\/p>\n
While the incident remains under investigation, Burton said in a text message to Newsday, “speed appears to be the primary factor.”<\/p>\n
Additional information about the crash was not immediately available Monday afternoon.<\/p>\n
