STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. \u2014 Daynell Rowland exploded for a career-high 42 points on the strength of six three-pointers as host Petrides shocked first-place Tottenville, 78-70, in PSAL 3A division play in Sunnyside.<\/p>\n
The junior guard, who also sank 10 of 13 free-throw attempts, tallied 40-or-more points for the second time in his two-year varsity career. Rowland topped his previous high of 41 which he scored early in his sophomore campaign a year ago.<\/p>\n
In addition to Rowland, the Panthers (3-10 overall, 2-6 PSAL) also received 18 points from Kareem Nesbitt while Aidan Gonzalez and Tyler Chapman teamed for another 13 markers.<\/p>\n
Elias Souleidis (18 points) and Abdelrahman Hassan (13 points) paced the Pirates, who suffered their first league loss to drop to 7-1 (10-5 overall).<\/p>\n
\u201cWe just played with a ton of effort tonight on both ends of the floor,\u2019’ said Petrides head coach Nick Lezoli. \u201d(Rowland) attacked downhill and from the perimeter and was just great all game.\u2019’<\/p>\n
Petrides owned a 35-27 lead at intermission and kept its foot on the gas pedal to open the third. Rowland scored 13 points in the quarter, including a pair of treys, and Gonzalez and Nesbitt combined for another nine as the host built as much as a 13-point lead with two minutes to go in the period.<\/p>\n
Lezoli\u2019s troops led 56-47 entering the final eight minutes.<\/p>\n
Although things got a bit dicey in the final period, the Panthers wouldn\u2019t be denied. Thanks to Hassan (10 fourth-quarter points), the Pirates were able to cut their deficit to three points with 4:00 left.<\/p>\n
However, Petrides canned 11 of 16 free-throw attempts in the fourth behind Rowland (4 for 4) and Sonyboy Zintamus (3 for 4) and Nesbitt (four FTs) to hold on.<\/p>\n
\u201cTottenville went full-court pressure late, but fortunately we valued the ball and attacked in transition,\u2019’ said Lezoli. \u201dCredit to Tottenville for coming back, but we kept fighting. We kept our composure and shot well enough late to get the victory.\u2019’<\/p>\n

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. \u2014 Danny O\u2019Connor scored a game-high 17 points and Xavier Farley recorded a double-double as the Dragons cruised to the PSAL 3A victory over the visiting Raiders on Monday.<\/p>\n
O\u2019Connor finished with eight rebounds and five assists while Farley recorded 11 points and 13 rebounds while blocking five shots for 7-7 CSIM (4-4 PSAL). <\/p>\n
Patrick Tucker (four steals) added 11 points while Stanley Kushnir and Daniel Zajonc teamed for another 14 markers for the Dragons.<\/p>\n
Dyshawn Cartagena led the Raiders with 16 points.<\/p>\n
Tucker scored nine points and O\u2019Connor buried a pair of three-pointers as the Dragons raced to a 19-3 lead after the first quarter and never looked back.<\/p>\n
Eagle Academy SI 60, Fort Hamilton 57<\/p>\n
BROOKLYN, N.Y. \u2014 Armani Perez finished with a game-high 26 points to lead Eagle to the non-league victory over the host Tigers on Monday.<\/p>\n
Perez, who buried a career-high four treys, finished with four blocks and four rebounds for the Stapleton school, which improved to 6-9 overall.<\/p>\n
Juneek Daniels (14 points, eight rebounds) and Justin Webley (10 points) also contributed offensively while Anthony Riley (11 rebounds, six assists, five points) turned in a solid all-around game.<\/p>\n
Dawsen Lay paced Fort Hamilton with 18 points.<\/p>\n
Eagle led 32-26 at intermission and, thanks in part to Webley\u2019s five third-quarter markers, it owned a 46-37 advantage going into the fourth.<\/p>\n
The Tigers made things interesting, but Perez\u2019s eight points in the fourth helped the Stapleton school hold on.<\/p>\n

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. \u2014 Mahyar Ben Amor paced a balanced attack with 18 points as the Centrals recorded the PSAL 1A victory over the visiting Seagulls on Monday.<\/p>\n
Mohammed Mustafa and Leonard Qoku added 16 points apiece for New Dorp, which improved to 6-1 in league play. Jayden Crawford added 11 for the winners.<\/p>\n
Adam Kaba and Ian Evans scored 17 and 10 points, respectively, for the Seagulls.<\/p>\n
The game was tied 28-28 at intermission when the Centrals exploded for 27 third-quarter points to take control. Qoku, who finished with 10 rebounds, tallied eight and Crawford added six as ND took a commanding 55-36 advantage into the fourth and never looked back.<\/p>\n

Evan Duran paced Petrides with 22 points, including six three-pointers.<\/p>\n
