STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. \u2014 Mayor Zohran Mamdani named a trio of judicial appointments Monday, including two with Staten Island ties.<\/p>\n
Judge Natalie Barros and Judge Andres Casas both spent time as assistant district attorneys at the Richmond County District Attorney\u2019s Office. They joined Judge Cary Fishcer as the three appointments announced Monday. <\/p>\n
\u201cNew Yorkers deserve a justice system that delivers accountability, safety, and fairness across the five boroughs,\u201d Mamdani said. \u201cI am proud to announce these judicial appointments, whose depth of experience and commitment to impartiality will strengthen our courts and restore public trust.\u201d<\/p>\n
Barros also served as a court attorney in the Richmond County Criminal Court. Casas also served as a principal court attorney in New York Supreme Court, Richmond County through the New York State Unified Court System, according to information from Mamdani\u2019s office.<\/p>\n
It\u2019s not yet clear in what capacity the new judges will serve, but mayoral appointments serve in the criminal, civil and family courts. A hearing later this month will offer more information about their roles going forward.<\/p>\n
Mamdani also announced nine judicial reappointments Monday, including one with Staten Island ties. <\/p>\n
