accused<\/a> of spending union funds for personal use and expenses between March 5, 2018, and Oct. 4, 2022, while serving as president of the NYSTPBA.<\/p>\nHe\u2019ll face up to a year of interim probation and must pay more than $25,621 to the PBA, according to the DA’s office. If Mungeer complies, he\u2019ll be able to withdraw his plea and plead guilty to petit larceny instead. He will be required to forfeit all of his police credentials. His probation will be overseen by Sullivan County.<\/p>\n
The New York State Troopers Police Benevolent Association released a statement on the guilty plea.<\/p>\n
\u201cTom Mungeer stole from the very people he swore to represent, violating his oath to uphold the law \u2013 the worst possible hypocrisy for a member of law enforcement. We are deeply disappointed that he will have an opportunity to plead guilty to a reduced charge and that his restitution neither will fully repay what he stole from our members, nor wipe away the reputational stain he left on our union. Our members deserve a union that works in their best interest, and both they and the public should feel confident that the NYSTPBA is committed to responsible oversight.
