WASHINGTON \u2014 President Trump mocked ousted\u00a0Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro<\/a>\u00a0Tuesday for trying \u201cto imitate my dance\u201d in public appearances before US troops snatched him in a daring weekend raid.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe gets up there and he tries to imitate my dance a little bit, but he\u2019s a violent guy,\u201d Trump told an annual gathering of House Republicans at the\u00a0rebranded Trump-Kennedy Center<\/a>\u00a0in Washington.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe\u2019s killed millions of people. He\u2019s tortured \u2014 they have a torture chamber in the middle of Caracas that they\u2019re closing up.\u201d<\/p>\n

The socialist strongman, now facing\u00a0federal drug smuggling and weapons charges<\/a>, publicly danced late last year to the beat of a song declaring \u201cno crazy war\u201d\u00a0in English\u00a0as Trump ratcheted up his threats.<\/p>\n

In one widely circulated clip, Maduro, 63, wiggled his hips before bouncing up and down to the anti-intervention tune.<\/p>\n

The\u00a0New York Times reported Sunday<\/a>\u00a0that Trump administration officials took Maduro\u2019s slick moves as a sign that the left-wing authoritarian was mocking Washington\u2019s efforts to force him from power and trying to call what he believed to be a bluff.<\/p>\n

Weeks earlier, the paper reported, Maduro had rejected an offer to step down from power and go into a self-imposed exile in Turkey.<\/p>\n

The Post reported in early December that Secretary of State Marco Rubio had\u00a0floated allowing Maduro to live out his days in oil-rich Qatar\u00a0<\/a>after Trump had insisted in late November that the Venezuelan surrender his leadership immediately.\u00a0<\/p>\n

With Maduro showing no signs of budging from Caracas, Trump signed off on what he called the \u201cmost incredible\u201d mission early Saturday to capture the dictator and bring him to New York to face charges.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt was so complex. 152 airplanes \u2026 We had a lot of boots on the ground, but it was amazing. And think of it, nobody was killed,\u201d the president said.<\/p>\n

\u201cAnd on the other side, a lot of people were killed \u2014 unfortunately, I say that. Soldiers, Cubans, mostly Cubans, but many, many killed \u2026 and our guys were, you know, our guys are jumping out of helicopters.\u201d<\/p>\n

Here\u2019s the latest on Nicol\u00e1s Maduro\u2019s capture:<\/p>\n

Trump did not say whether he intends to ask the GOP conference for legislation retroactively approving of any military engagement \u2014 despite threatening to send US troops back to Caracas if interim leader Delcy Rodriguez, Maduro\u2019s former vice president, fails to meet his demand of allowing expropriated US oil companies to regain lost assets.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The War Powers Resolution of 1973 says that Congress must authorize military actions lasting longer than 60 days, though courts have deferred to elected legislators to enforce alleged violations of that timeframe.<\/p>\n

In contrast to Maduro\u2019s manic dancing, Trump\u2019s style is more restrained, featuring slow-paced fist thrusts to the beat of the Village People\u2019s \u201cYMCA.\u201d<\/p>\n

The president, 79, demonstrated his signature moves on stage after he ended his 85-minute speech to lawmakers.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Trump also revealed in his wide-ranging remarks that first lady Melania Trump disapproves of his rug-cutting, which has been widely emulated by supporters.<\/p>\n

\u201cShe hates when I dance. I said, \u2018Everybody wants me to dance, darling.\u2019 \u2018It\u2019s not presidential,\u2019\u201d he quoted his wife as saying.<\/p>\n

\u201cShe actually said, \u2018Could you imagine FDR dancing?\u2019 She said that to me \u2026 But she says, \u2018Darling, please.\u2019 And I have to say this, \u2018The dancing they really like.\u2019 She said, \u2018They don\u2019t like it. They\u2019re just being nice to you.\u2019 I said \u2018That\u2019s not right. The place goes crazy.
