STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. \u2014 Dense fog is reducing visibility across Staten Island Wednesday morning, creating potentially hazardous conditions for the morning commute. <\/p>\n

The National Weather Service expects conditions to improve through the morning as a cold front moves across the region.<\/p>\n

Areas of dense fog are widespread throughout Staten Island and the New York City metro area, according to the National Weather Service. Visibility improvements are expected over the next one to three hours as the fog gradually dissipates. Motorists should use caution during the morning commute, reduce speed, use low-beam headlights, and allow extra distance between vehicles.<\/p>\n

The fog will clear by late morning as a cold front passes through the area. Wednesday afternoon will bring west-northwest winds that could gust to 25-30 mph, with temperatures reaching the upper 40s, possibly touching 50 degrees in parts of the metro area. Skies will be slow to clear, with most clearing expected by mid to late afternoon.<\/p>\n

Wednesday night will bring partly cloudy to mostly clear skies with diminishing winds and lows in the mid-30s in New York City. With relatively high humidity, there\u2019s potential for black ice development in some areas outside the immediate NYC metro area.<\/p>\n

Thursday will be mostly sunny with high temperatures in the 40s to near 50s. Milder conditions will continue into Friday and Saturday, with highs reaching the 50s in the New York City area on Friday and across most of the region on Saturday.<\/p>\n

An approaching frontal system will bring light rain on Friday, mainly in the afternoon and at night. The front will stall near the area Friday night, then low pressure passing to the west will bring more significant rainfall on Saturday.<\/p>\n

Colder air will return early next week, with high temperatures only reaching the 30s to lower 40s on Monday and Tuesday.<\/p>\n
