STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. \u2014 An actor is vying for newly minted Mayor Zohran Mamdani\u2019s seat just days after he was sworn in. <\/p>\n
Michael Rapaport, 55, known for his roles in \u201cDeep Blue Sea\u201d and \u201cTrue Romance\u201d announced on social media<\/a> and his podcast that he will run for mayor in the 2029 election. <\/p>\n He spelt and pronounced Mamdani\u2019s name incorrectly, calling him \u201cZoron the Moron.\u201d <\/p>\n \u201cBut have no fear, Mayor Rapaport will be here. You like them apples?\u201d Rapaport said. \u201cBorn and raised in New York City. Born and raised in New York\u2026 I came out of my mother\u2019s womb, [in a] New York hospital, okay?\u201d<\/p>\n This is likely in reference to Mamdani being born in Kampala, Uganda, before moving to New York City when he was 7-years-old. <\/p>\n \u201cI will be running my campaign on the fact that nothing will be free. I will do my best to make New York City affordable, but you will be getting nothing for free. I\u2019m not gonna lie to you, I\u2019m not gonna b——t you, okay?\u201d Rapaport continued. <\/p>\n A cornerstone of Mamdani\u2019s mayoral campaign was to introduce free bus service to New Yorkers. <\/p>\n The price of bus fares increased on Jan. 4 from $2.90 a ride to $3, but that plan was set in motion before he was sworn into office. <\/p>\n The MTA announced the boost back in September of 2025<\/a>, weeks before Mamdani even won the November mayoral election. <\/p>\n Rapaport went on to say, \u201c\u2026every single time I make a mistake, I will acknowledge it, I will apologize, and I won\u2019t do with a s–t eating grin, okay? I\u2019m gonna be the best mayor for New York City\u2026 I\u2019m coming, no ditty.\u201d <\/p>\n His video garnered nearly 16,000 likes<\/a> at the time of writing. <\/p>\n
