The Daily Mail reports <\/a>that a federal judge appointed by Trump is demanding to know why Justice Department prosecutor Lindsey Halligan is acting like she still has a certain high-powered job. <\/p>\nU.S. District Judge David Novak of Richmond has ordered Halligan to explain why she continues to identify herself as the U.S. attorney for the Eastern District of Virginia even though another judge ruled that she had been unlawfully installed in the job.<\/p>\n
Novak on Tuesday issued a three-page order that demands answers from Halligan regarding her role. <\/p>\n
Halligan, a former Colorado beauty queen, defended Trump during the president\u2019s classified documents case. <\/p>\n
But Halligan\u2019s separate prosecutions against former FBI Director James Comey and New York Attorney General Letitia James spectacularly fell apart last year. <\/p>\n
Novak in his order demands that Halligan \u201cshall further explain why her identification does not constitute a false or misleading statement.\u201d<\/p>\n
U.S. District Judge Cameron Currie in November ruled that the DOJ had violated the U.S. Constitution in appointing Halligan as U.S. attorney. <\/p>\n
That ruling led to the dismissal of the cases against Comey and James. <\/p>\n
The judge in another ruling in the James case said that Halligan had exercised power \u201cshe did not lawfully possess.\u201d<\/p>\n
Currie\u2019s ruling has been appealed but the order has not been paused by the courts and remains in effect. <\/p>\n
